We’re off to see the…….GLINDA!

PinExt Were off to see the.......GLINDA!

Were off to see the.......GLINDA!I am writing this, the morning after the night before, blurry eyed but my heart bursting with pride….why?

Well my daughter is in a theatre group for young children that performed The Wizard of Oz, playing Glinda – the good witch of the south in the land of Oz. She has been practising every week for over two school terms, it has many scene and costume changes. This was a really big deal, everyone was nervous and it was so WONDERFUL! Such an amazing night. The whole cast, crew and directors, did a fabulous job.

We were bringing Miss A (2) with us, and half expected her to either join in (as she practises with Miss N (8) quite often in her bedroom) or rush up on the stage making mischief. She however, was as enthralled as all of us, and sat patiently in her seat, staring intently at the stage.

Here is Miss N, in full swing:

We decided that this deserved a special gift something that she could treasure and remember forever.

I contacted the amazing Tobyboo, as I had recently seen that she had made collectors trio of the Tin Man, The Scarecrow and the Lion here.

Tobyboo is a Textile illustrator she makes pieces for special occasions, from bespoke baby blankets to bespoke framed art to celebrate weddings and anniversaries. Baby heirloom gifts including vintage style toys, framed name art and storage – all one-off treasures.

I have posted before my love of picnic blankets well, I believe she makes the most beautiful urban picnic blankets.

So I made an order for a Glinda Doll – Tina (Tobyboo) seemed as excited by the commission as I was, asking me lots of questions about Miss N, down to hair and eye colour and even the colour of her dress.

And so Glinda was born

Were off to see the.......GLINDA!Here is a close up of the detail on her face:

Were off to see the.......GLINDA!I really don’t know where to start to describe it, it is so beautifully made, using the most gorgeous fabric.

I think the main body is a linen cotton mix, and so soft. The dress in pale pink with a sparkly thread woven in, is just perfect!

We all couldn’t be happier, and such a fitting tribute to how proud Miss N has made us feel.

Please accept my apologies for the photography, I had to be almost Ninja like to covertly capture them!

So Miss N, our gorgeous daughter, I wanted to tell you just how proud you have made us feel, how beautiful you looked and how much we love you.

About Amanda Cottingham

We are a family of four who love to have fun, two girls aged 9 and 2, and thirty something parents! I chose to call this blog The ‘ana’ mum diary as I wanted to use our initials… a little bit of each of us. I hope this reflects that we love being together and this blog is all about our family! Making the jump to start the ana mum diary was for many reasons, one of which is because I feel sometimes….. well that sometimes 140 characters just isn’t enough! Yes I’m a bit of a twitter addict! I love blogging and twitter and all that it has brought into my life, but my biggest love is my family. I feel that this could be in some way, a document to the life that we have together. I’m kinda scared of letting my thoughts go off into cyberspace, but nothing ventured right? I’m hoping to cover topics that interest me, and though I can’t promise to be a prolific blogger I promise to love it! So here goes, I will jump in with both feet and tell you all, a diary of a family…..my two daughters a Mum and very tall Dad! Here is my google + page I'd love for you to follow me my Google Profile+.

  1. Your daughter is perfectly lovely as Glinda, the good witch, and what a darling idea to order the delightful doll! The doll will always be a treasured reminder of her remarkable experience.
    Thank you for sharing this.

    Have a delightful day,
    Marianne

  2. What a star!! Your Daughter is beautiful, just like her Mum ;) I love the gift you had made for her. I have seen Tobyboo’s work before. I wrote about her fabulous Soldier doll on We Make London Kids Gift Guide some time ago now. How lovely to see more gorgeous creations and one being loved so much.

Beautiful. Thanks for linking up :) x

    • Thanks Dad. She really looked beautiful, so so proud of her!
I have also gone to ninja like proportions to take a secret film of her singing (I’ll never go to heaven) I’ll give you copy when I see you x
