John Lewis Nottingham : 1 Million Pound Makeover
The beauty department at John Lewis In Nottingham has had a radical Makeover, not only has it introduced new brands but it looks and feels so different. I am incredibly impressed, the whole thing has been done so quickly and without disruption to the shoppers.
Amanda Dammers, managing director of John Lewis Nottingham said:
“This investment will enable us to offer our customers an enticing range of new brands in store and demonstrates our commitment to the local community, having traded here for more than 40 years.
“The refurbishment will also contribute to the vitality of Nottingham city centre to ensure it retains its rightful role as the regional shopping destination of choice.”
Penny, Becky and I were invited to the opening, and were given a guided tour of the department. As ever the staff are passionate and always know their stuff. We were greeted by the lovely Louise (who is the head of Marketing and PR for the store) and the gorgeous Lucy (who you will remember me blogging about before…she is my personal stylist now, don’t you know) later with a glass of champagne. It was a real treat, to listen to Jen from ‘A Little Bird Told Me‘ talk about what her top 5 beauty must haves are, as well a watch a live Bobby Brown Makeover.
There are a few new brands that have been introduced, Aerin being one of them. Really beautiful make-up and skin care range from the granddaughter of Estee Lauder, luxurious but young and fresh, I would describe it as. This is a brand I must try out soon!
Also new to the team is Bare Minerals, also a make-up and skincare range.
As the mineral experts, we believe makeup and skincare should not only make you look good, but they should also be good for your skin. That’s why we started the mineral makeup revolution with our award-winning Original SPF 15 Foundation, and it’s the reason minerals remain an essential part of every innovation that we develop for your skin. Experience the transformative power of bareMinerals.
I know this is a very popular range, and the counter was always busy on the night.
Origins and Benefit have also got gorgeous new beauty areas, both firm favourite with me. Each of the Spa areas has also had a makeover, with a complete refit to the Elemis spa room. It smelt devine, I cant wait to pop back for a facial some time!
Penny and I before we left, decided to take Bobby Brown up on the offer of a 5 minute Instant Make-up refresh.
I am a real liquid liner girl, I have tried everything else but it just doesn’t compare. My Bobbie Brown beauty advisor recommended that I try the gel eyeliner, AND most importantly the correct brush for the job. Well what a revelation, she tweaked also where I applied it, and also recommended that I try a cream blush rather than a powder, adding a little lip glass, and in under 5 minutes I had been Bobby Brown’ed.
Well let me tell you I loved the new look!
The transformation of the beauty department at John Lewis Nottingham, is so impressive, if gives the shopper more access to each of the brands, in the way they have arranges all of the counters, making it feel more accessible to feel and touch products. Well done John Lewis, another triumph!

Make-up on the go – how to achieve a flawless look in 5 minutes

With the pressures of the school run or the busy commute to work, spending time on your beauty routine can often be the first luxury to go. For those of you who find yourself hurriedly applying foundation in the car rear view mirror, or forsaking make-up entirely, I’ve compiled some handy suggestions for achieving a flawless, healthy look in no time at all.
Here are some tried and tested beauty tips for the busy mum on the go:
Flawless Skin
It’s all too easy when you’re in a rush to end up with the dreaded tide lines of foundation around your jaw area.
To avoid committing this beauty faux-pas, try replacing a heavy foundation with a tinted moisturiser, which is an easy way to and combine two beauty products in one. A good tinted moisturiser is easy to apply, eradicates dryness, and is kinder on the skin than regular foundation products. I recommend choosing one with an SPF factor to help protect you from sun damage. Your skin will thank you later!
If you prefer to opt for a light foundation, the CC Colour Correcting Cream from Max Factor offers you protection in the sun, as well as a smooth, hydrating coverage; perfect for helping you look rested when you’ve been up since 6am with the kids!
For a quick fix for any dark circles under the eye, it’s a good idea to blend in some concealer before you apply a tinted moisturiser. This is a quick and easy fix if you’re feeling tired, just make sure you pick a concealer one or two shades lighter than your foundation or tinted moisturiser to help eradicate dark spots.
Luscious Lips
Lipstick is the ultimate in “smudgeable,” and the result can be disastrous if applied in a rush. To avoid lip-stick on the teeth, or, worse, marks on your favourite dress, consider swapping your lipstick for a lip stain. These are great because they stay on for hours, so you can forget about having to reapply it when you’ve got a hectic schedule. Lip stains also give you a rosy glow, much more suitable for wearing during the day than harsh lipstick.
Max Factor’s innovative lip pen with kiss-proof colour, for example, is a great lipstick alternative as it offers a subtle matte coverage and, mostly importantly, lasts for hours. Plus, a lip stain can double up as blusher, leaving more space in your handbag.
Gorgeous Eyes
Lastly, be sure to make mascara part of your quick-fix beauty cosmetics routine. It’s worth investing in a decent brand to avoid clumping, and is great for making eyes appear bigger and brighter.
A quick coat is all you need to achieve a natural look and avoid any TOWIE-style eyes. Again, Max Factor does a great ‘2000 calorie’ mascara that lifts and curls your lashes in seconds, so that you don’t have to worry about using eyelash curlers.
Whats the Deal with Packaged Holidays

This is a guest post brought to you in association with Ice Lolly.
Holidays are meant to be a time for relaxation and enjoyment. However, between arranging family activities, preparing food for your hungry troops and making sure that everyone is having a good time, there’s barely a spare minute to put your feet up and unwind.
Thankfully, there is another way to take a holiday that doesn’t involve you being rushed off your feet: package holidays with Ice Lolly. There are plenty of holiday resorts to choose from and you don’t have to worry about booking hotels or where to eat either because this is all taken care of for you.
Package holidays
Package holidays are sometimes regarded with a degree of mistrust. Unfairly, they are often seen as cheap getaways for people who simply want a couple of weeks getting drunk in a low cost hotel by the Mediterranean Sea. However, while package holidays certainly are be economical financially, there’s no reason that they should be limited with regards to what you can do while you’re away or where you go.
Convenience
When you book a package holiday, everything is arranged for you. Your main obligations are to choose your destination enjoy yourself. A good travel company will provide you with nice accommodation, within your price range, and make sure that transport, tours and food are sorted out for any pre-arranged day trips that you are going to be taking.
How to get a good deal
Package holidays tend to be a bit cheaper than getaways that you arrange yourself because travel companies have links within the travel industry. This means that they can offer customers subsidised prices on hotels, tours and restaurants. The easiest way to make sure that you’re getting the best deal is to check online on comparison websites. Here you’ll be able to see a range of offers from a variety of different companies.
Problems to watch out for
If you enjoy the adventure of discovering a city for yourself, then a package deal may not be the best choice for you. However, even if you are quite happy for someone else to do the legwork for you, it’s still important to check the itinerary that has been proposed to you by the company you book with. Make sure you know what you’re doing before you go away so that you can prepare. You should also ask for alterations to be made to any items on the list that you’re not too keen on, not only will this help you to get the most of out your package deal, it will ensure that you’re not paying for something that you’d rather not do.
Different types of package deals
There are package holidays to cater for almost all areas of interest. You can find deals on chalet packages, adventure holidays, sport holidays and luxury getaways. Of course, if none of these appeal to you, then you can always still find a great deal on a low budget beach holiday by the Med.
