Business Mums Unite #BMU11
I survived…my very first blogging event!
It was an amazing day, I sent Miss N off to school, dressed as a Roman! Miss A, was being babysat by my mum, so I was so not worried about her. Bit worried about my mum, but not Miss A
I was off….
I like to be on time, so left way before I really needed to, the traffic was horrendous and I only just made it for 9.30, thank goodness I didn’t stop off for the Starbucks that I planned! It was to take place in the Albert Hall in Nottingham, which is an amazing building, so I was not only excited to attend, I couldn’t wait to see the Hall in the daytime. I was handed my name badge for the day, and we were off!
We were welcomed by Charlotte Pearson, the founder of Business Mums unite, who then introduced us to the Keynote speaker Elaine Hanzak Gott.
I have taken so much from Elaine’s speech, it was so moving. I am looking through my notes as I am sat here and thinking again about all those things that spoke to me.
My memories will be:
Grumpy Knickers.
Choose Hope.
Don’t be a Mood Hoover.
The Flickering Candle technique.
Choose Positivity.
Sally Gunnell – Shut the ‘duck’ up.
Write a list, what makes you feel good – write it in your senses.
Let go and feel the support.
Tomorrow will happen, make it count.
What an amazing lady!
The next speaker was Naomi Timperley. Who I really liked, she is my kind of business person. To me she really knew where she wanted to be, and was very driven to do it. But did it with humour and wit. I love the way she is letting her company grow organically, because this is what works best for her and her family. She was extremely refreshing!
She had great tales of her time in the Dragons Den asking for money for her business Baby Loves Disco. I love the fact Naomi and her business partner decided not to take the dragon up on her offer.
Next up was Sally Pettitt, the Director from The Mother Factor, she spoke about the 5 tips for social networking. Which not only covered out networking for that day, but how to build on that for the future.
The final speaker was Rebecca Jones, from Business in Red Shoes. Rebecca Jones is a mentor to women in business, author of business start-up book “Business in Red Shoes” and a professional speaker for women’s conferences and events. Her speech was about doing less for success, which was an interesting concept. I definitely need to value myself and my time more!
We then had a delicious lunch and more time to chat and network, followed by the workshops.
I attended the workshop How to Monetize your Blog by Becky Goddard-Hill – it was really informative, wish it could have been longer.
There were so may things that I wrote down from this workshop, about how to draw traffic to your site and about Becky’s story my hand hurt by the end of the session! It has left me with lots to think about, and a long to do list!
I want to say a huge thank you to all of the people who I met yesterday, I had a fantastic time, and a big thank you Charlotte for an amazing opportunity.
Thank you for reading
