Being Styled By John Lewis

Oh, I really have been excited about this. Not only about experiencing the styling session for myself, but also to share it with you all.
Ok, so first of all, I have never experienced a one to one appointment with a stylist before. I think I was hesitant to actually take the plunge. Well if, I could convey anything with this blog post, it would be, please please try this, it is AMAZING!
I was greeted by Lucy (my stylist) at the Nottingham John Lewis store, and shown into the very well-appointed, private fitting room and lounge area. John Lewis, offer free fashion advice with one of the in-house ‘Experts on Hand’ stylists.
We sat down, and chatted about what I wanted from the appointment. I have a blogging event I am going to (BritmumsLive) so really wanted to have a new outfit or dress for the occasion. Lucy asked me lots of questions. She was professional but I felt so at ease, it was like chatting with a good friend.
Lucy soon decided that she thought a dress would be the way to go, picking up on the fact, I love Maxi dresses and concentrated on those. Lucy then explained she would go on the shop floor and find some options for me to try on. I was left sipping my champagne, and reading magazines, absolute bliss!
I was having my styling session on a very busy Easter Saturday, John Lewis in Nottingham was so bustling with shoppers, but I felt unrushed, calm, pampered and excited by the thought of trying some new clothing on, in my secluded corner of the store.

So Lucy came back around 10 minutes later, with around 12 different options for me to try. I felt like she was excited to see me in them too, and Lucy ushered me to try on her first selection. Well the first dress, I absolutely loved, I fell in love with the colour and the material, it draped beautifully. What I loved most about it, is I would never have even picked it up. I just simply wouldn’t have thought it would suit me. I think I have a strong sense of my own style, however, since going to the styling session, I think I most definitely realise that I need to rake more risks especially with colour.

As we went through all of the dresses, I felt so confident that Lucy and myself were on the same page. At the Nottingham store, there is a fitting room, so you can try the clothes in private, but you then enter the lounge area, where the stylist is waiting. Sometimes, as I entered the area, we simultaneously would say yes, and in the same respect, we both said no when the dress didn’t suit me. There were actually many more dresses I liked, than disliked and was only one dress that we disagreed on. However, it was the length of that dress that Lucy was unsure of, so she recommended that I could in fact have the dress lengthened by the in house seamstress.
Some dresses, needed accessories or even a different bra. Nothing was too much trouble, and Lucy simply went to find the items, so that I could make an informed decision. I, at no point felt that I was being pressurised to purchase anything. Sometimes, we would talk about other items, that I had in my wardrobe that could be worn with the new items. Even considering whether items would travel well, honestly Lucy, seemed to think of everything!
I thought I would produce a mood board to illustrate the items that I loved, and purchased, and ones that we talked about that I had at home to complement the looks.
- Black Leather Bomber Jacket – Mango {to buy}
- Hobbs Savanah Maxi Dress, black and cream {purchased}
- Ted Baker Maxi Dress in light green {my sponsored dress to attend Britmums Live}
- Portofino Phase Eight Maxi Dress, navy and white {purchased}

- Denim Jacket, this is from French Connection {have similar at already}
- Dune, taupe shoe – Marthas {purchased}
- Phase Eight Jumpsuit in Navy {purchased}

As you can see, I had a very successful shopping trip, as I bought three dresses, a pair of shoes and even a new bra!
So if you are looking a special outfit for an occasion, about to start a new job, need a entirely new wardrobe the options are endless, and the fashion tips and wardrobe updating ideas will be given to you thick and fast. I’m voting to leave my future purchases to the experts.
With thanks to the John Lewis team, especially Lucy and Louise, who helped make this experience so fabulous.

Living Room Makeover : Sofa So Good
So, in my quest for a brighter more functioning living room, I have revealed MY DESK and TOY STORAGE. I would like to now show you my new sofas:
We decided to go for a large sofa, big enough for 3/4 people and a small sofa, which comfortably seats two.
After much deliberation we plumped for leather again, as its easier to keep clean with a preschooler. I say this whilst hiding felt tips from the little minx!
I purchased them from Sofa Sofa. A friend, had recommended the company to me, as being great value for money, but fantastic quality. I was really, very impressed with the company as a whole. They communicated with me via email, and even gave me a courtesy call, to let me know they had my order. Very impressive. They arrived exactly at the date we had prearranged. I had asked them to delay the delivery slightly as I wasn’t ready for them.
The delivery men were friendly but professional unpacking the sofas, which were wrapped in cloth as well as plastic to protect them, and taking this away with them. They asked me to take my time and check the sofas were to my satisfaction. Such a fantastic experience, I would wholeheartedly recommend them. This is not in any way a sponsored post, as I paid the full retail price for them, I just wanted to share my experience.
I love the sofas, as the are quite vintage looking, with the low slung arms, but classic in shape. They are extremely comfortable (which I was worried about, as I was buying them online) and in a warm but light colour.
I have bought new cushions too. A very subdued collection for me, in golds and teal. The gold cushions were both from Debenhams. The cushion behind, is by Betty Jackson and has a gold thread running through the woven fabric. The second is from John Rocha and is described as gold foil velour.
I have included two teal cushions, a spotty one, that can been seen on the above photograph, of the two seater, from John Lewis. Finally, I have the cushion below, which I actually won in a competition. It’s from Liberty, and is hand painted, and made of slub silk. I love it, I don’t think it is made any longer, but I love that it doesn’t match anything else, makes it even more special.
I do have throws, that we use too for when it gets a little chilly in the evening, but I would love to have some teal ones. They are on my wish list at the moment, I’m open to suggestions, if you happen to see any snuggly ones, please let me know.
So there you have my two new Sofas and cushions. My next post on my living room makeover will be about an piece of funiture, that I have been lucky enough to review from a fantastic company called Fashion for Home. I have included them in a recent I Love Mondays feature.
