I Love Mondays : The one where I ‘Ask Her Friends’

| October 29, 2012 | 1 Comment

I have a very cool site to share with you today on this special edition of I Love Mondays. Ask her Friends, is a website which is primarily for the man in your life.  It is designed to make it easier for any guy to buy a gift for their wife, girlfriend, mum or sister, or indeed any female in their life really!

Do they need this helping hand?

Well, I would say there are a lot of men (and women) out there who really do. I know Tall Dad certainly does, he’s always misses my not so subtle hints and often is exasperated trying to surprise me.  Even though we have been together for over 14 years, and he knows me really well.  The art of shopping and gift buying completely alludes him. He is very sweet, and generous, but its at times like these, that Ask Her Friends, is absolutely perfect.

I decided the best way to do this was test the site.  So I gave Tall Dad the web address, and the rest was up to him.

You can get the Ask Her Friends site to create a list of gifts to purchase two main ways.  Either answer two simple questions –  Who is the gift for, and what is your price range? Hey presto, it will show you a selection of gifts.

Or alternatively answer six really simple questions and use the ‘idea map’ so that you can refine your search a little more.

This is the method Tall Dad decided to test.

Tall Dad, thought it was simple and easy to use, and didn’t have a problem answering the questions about the type of person I am.   I must admit, I was looking over his shoulder as he described my style as classic and vintage, and having a love of films. I was a little nervous about the outcome, but extremely happy with the result.  Here is the selection below:

If there is anything, that you think instantly, that the person will not like, you simply hit remove and an alternative is given instantly. My selection was very varied, and from very different sellers.

It’s at this point that you can either make a decision and buy the gift, or alternatively ‘Ask Her friends’ by sending an email, or sending one of her friends a message on Facebook.  It’s such a simple concept,  that gives the buyer confidence that his purchase will be suitable.

The Ask Her Friends Details:

  • Gifts start from under £10
  • Simple and easy to navigate site
  • All the hard work done for you
  • Use social media, to have your own army of personal shoppers.
  • Specialising in beautiful, unique products from cool boutiques such as Coulson Macleod, Tatty Devine and Milli Millu as well as beautiful stores such as Liberty London
  • Experts blog, to give hints and tips
  • Also experiences are available, such a a wardrobe revamp, or photography lessons
So what did I think to the items chosen?
I loved them, I actually found it spookily accurate. I loved that it chose unusual but modern jewellery.  This is something he has gotten wrong before (Sorry Tall Dad) any of these pieces, however would be the right choice.  I’m a huge fan of Orla Kiely design, and I was only saying the other day I need some nude coloured heels.  So to be honest I would be extremely happy with any of the gifts.  If I really had to choose, I’d go for the large silver and pearl necklace from Two Red Trees, it’s just gorgeous!

I’m Bananas for Tall Dad!

I’m Bananas for Tall Dad!

| July 9, 2012 | 13 Comments

Over the weekend Tall Dad has been celebrating his 40th birthday. I really wanted to make something for his birthday, I just thought it would be more special. I’ll be honest and say I was at a complete loss what to actually buy him. Fortunately he decided he wanted a ‘thingy’ for his golf ‘huge a ma wotsit’ so I was off the hook with the main present.

I had been sent some fantastic games from Bananagrams (review to follow) have you heard of them? I hadn’t until I met them at BritMum Live, and I was really smitten with the idea of the games, and that there was a game for every age group.  They have a great site with explanations of all the games on there. They’ve won lots of awards too.

This is a visual explanation of the core Bananagram game, on YouTube which I had to share with you. Continue Reading

Merci Maman (A Fathers Day Surprise)

Merci Maman (A Fathers Day Surprise)

| May 20, 2012 | 4 Comments

Tall Dad was lucky to have received a very early Fathers day gift, from one our favourite companies at The Ana Mum Diary, Merci Maman.

I have written about Merci Maman before HERE and included them in my Valentines round-up HERE. They are a fantastic company, whom I have always had amazing service from. They not only deliver quickly and efficiently, the people who work in the small London-based business are so passionate about the company.  It really is a pleasure to either work with them, or order off the site.

The website, is a fantastic place to start if you are looking to purchase personalised gifts. Whether you are looking for something to mark the birth of a baby or a gift that is unusual that you know will be treasured, something for every occasion!

Here is the bracelet, in the recognisable orange packaging:

Priced at £39 complete with the engraving and gift box, you can purchase it on the website HERE.

And here is Tall Dad wearing it:

Merci Maman bracelet

As I have come to expect with Merci Maman products, it is fantastic quality. The engraving is such a beautiful style.  I genuinely have never seen anything engraved as well! You can have it engraved with your own names, dates or message. We chose ‘We love You’ and my daughters names on the reverse. Tall Dad thought it was a really lovely suprise, and loves it!

Well the lovely people at Merci Maman have offered me a bracelet just like this one, for one lucky reader of my blog to win.  So watch out for the blog post on Monday, it could be you!

Father and Daughter Time

Father and Daughter Time

| January 9, 2012 | 2 Comments

The time has come, can you believe it? At last the London 2012 Olympics is finally here…well later this year anyway, but this year!

The excitement is mounting at The Ana Mum Diary house, and it’s almost at fever pitch with all the arrangements.

Now you see, I’m not actually going, our youngest being only 2. We thought she would be too young to appreciate it, so I shall stay home with her.

However Tall Dad and Miss N (9) are going to have a father and daughter weekend together, they are both so excited!

The plans so far are that they, are going to stay over in a hotel, do a spot of shopping, and take in a show in the West End. I believe Shrek is the favourite at the moment. Culminating in going to watch Volleyball at Earls Court. This was one of the sports that Miss N requested that she would love to see. So she was thrilled when we managed to get tickets to see it.

Am I jealous? Well a little! I do think that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Olympics in your own country. However, I also think that this will be such an amazing thing for Tall Dad and Miss N to do together. The planning alone has been so exciting for them. I can’t imagine what they are going to be like once they actually go!

The atmosphere, even the Mexican waves, you can’t help but get wrapped up in the emotions of it all. What a fabulous way to lift the spirits of the country!

There is even going to huge screens in something called London Live, in places like Trafalgar Square, Victoria and Hyde Park where you can catch all the sporting action for free!

Miss A has not been left out though, she already has her very own mascot, a Wenlock that she sleeps with at night, so everyone’s happy!

This is a sponsored post. The second image is of an official Olympic Volleyball badge.
