Let me start by saying, I really love my garden, and enjoy gardening….not weeding, you’d be mad to enjoy weeding, but the nurturing, watering, planting and all the designing and dreaming that goes into a garden, that’s what I love.
I have never bought plants online, I know It’s quite normal to buy everything online now, but I honestly had never even given it a second thought.
Well I decided to take the plunge and ordered a couple of plants from Gardening Express. I believe they are the biggest online retailer of plants. So I knew my order was in safe hands.
I really liked the site, easy to navigate…with an equally easy to understand plant catalogue. I also loved that on the home page, you can see all of their favourite plants, the top sellers and what is looking good at the moment – a great touch by them.
Here is what I went for: Old English Lavender I’ve already got a couple of small blue lavenders and one white one, but I’d love to make some bags and fill them fragrant dried lavender, so more of this had been on list for a while.
Next up was: Hydrangea Seemanii (Evergreen Climbing Hydrangea), this was described on the site as:
An evergreen climber with large, serrated, dark green leaves which are leathery, glossy and large. Creamy-white, flat flower heads in summer which emerge from distinctive round buds. Hydrangea seemanii is an unusual evergreen climber that provides interest throughout the year and which looks lovely when in flower. The greenish white flowers erupt from large buds to wonderful effect. Ideal for clothing a large wall or garage, the plant is actually native to Mexico. If left unpruned, it will eventually reach a height and spread of 10 metres. Supplied in approx 3-5 litre containers.
It sounds perfect, as I have a garage wall, that I can see from my one of my Kitchen windows, that really needs something lush, and evergreen growing up it.
And finally, a very special and exclusive hydrangea that they will be launching soon, so not on the site as yet.
The Hydrangea Mega Mindy, this one I am very excited by. Typical of this plant are its large cone-shaped petals. Initially, these petals are white, here is the plant now:
But they turn pinkish red in late summer and autumn.
Even in mid winter, the cone-shaped silhouettes of the old flowers provide a gorgeous effect in the garden.
Once I ordered the items, I quickly received notification that they had been dispatched. I actually received them the day after I ordered, super speedy!
They arrived by courier, individually packaged in long cardboard boxes, with their pots enclosed in plastic, and well watered.
I will plant these over the weekend, and as they become established I will take some more photographs to show you.
So in conclusion we were very happy, quality plants at a reasonable price.
I’m already planing my next purchaces…want to see?
The Heuchera Peach Flambe, I love Huechera and the unusual colour of this one.
Also the Prunus Morello. One of our neighbours has one of these, in their front garden, I’ve alway admired it, and she asks us to take as many as we like, but feel to guilty too.
Can’t wait to place my next order! If you don’t already, you can follow Gardening express on twitter @GardeningExpres.

I was sent the Hydrangea Mega Mindy for the purpose of review, I have not been paid for this review. All opinions are my own.
All photographs, apart from the hydrangea starting to flower (that is mine) are from the company website.

The Hydrangea looks beautiful, as does your garden! You definitely have green fingers! It’s lovely to see everything in bloom this time of year isn’t it. x

I love the hydrangea! The cherry tree is lovely too. We’re looking for a small tree for our front garden, was looking at either an Elizabeth Magnolia or a Weeping Birch tree. I’ll take a look on here 🙂

My parent’s have a climbing hydrangea at the front of their house, it’s beautiful.
For years i hated the old-ladyness of hydrangeas but I’m coming round to their charms now.
I bet the new cherry tree is going to be fabulous. Perfect combination – beautiful blossom and delicious fruit (if you can get them before the birds!)

Good for you. I found Gardening Express to be a complete and utter disaster. I ordered plants 4 weeks ago. After trying to contact them by email (phone is impossible ) I was finally assured my plants were despatched. One week later the deliveries have yet to arrive.. Tried the tracking number – No Good. Tried rining – email support tricket – a joke…. Now I just want my money back.. so Frustrating.. I have purchased plants online before from English Suppliers and got excellent service but Gardening Express are the pits…
