Over 35,000 people turned out in Nottingham today to greet the Queen, Kate and William. I am really regretting not taking Miss N (9) out of school for a couple of hours into town so we got our own slice of history. Miss A (3) is too young really to have appreciated it.
To be honest it had not even crossed my mind to do it. It wasn’t until I was chatting at school pick-up that I realised that lots of parents had done this. The more we spoke about it, more I had a feeling of regret.
I will however share with you some really fantastic photographs that Tall Dad’s cousin once removed ( I had to google that) the gorgeous Grace Vernon took, at The Market Square today.
I love this image, with the reflections of the banners on the claret State Car. The mascot is St George slaying the dragon.
My absolute favourite has to be this one, a laughing HRH with Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William is there too, sat opposite them….I wonder what they were laughing about?
A prince in the making?
Apparently the Queen said the Council House was like Buckingham Palace.
Kate looked gorgeous in her M Missoni tweed coat dress, which she had worn to a previous engagement – I love that she has worn it before! She also was wearing Princess Diana’s blue diamond sapphire earrings.
It must have been an amazing morning. Thank you so much to Grace for letting me share these photographs, I’m only a little jealous 😉

Brilliant photos. My grandma went to see her too today because she was having lunch in Burghley House which is near where we live. She got a great video of her going past too! Love the picture of them all in the car laughing, that is fantastic!

And then she flew to Stamford where we waved our flags vigorously!
Such an occasion. Our school took all the kids to wave, all 250 of them!

Yes it was such occasion, I think lots of schools did it, at another area of Nottingham she went to. Did you go?

Now you are making me feel guilty for making the most of the crowd free shops to go clothes shopping! Gemma saw her hat though. Still none the wiser as to why she visited! Great pictures.

I can add a little clarity around why they all came – The Duke is patron of the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, which protects outdoor spaces. Vernon Park in Notts is one of these; The Challenge is a diamond jubilee legacy programme and so they all came to the Park so that the Duke could dedicate the Challenge to Her Majesty. And it was a great day for Nottingham, as well as for the QEII Fields Challenge!
