The French design house Casamance launched its range of furnishing fabrics in 2000, and quickly became a favourite among design-conscious homeowners and decorators. Contemporary, bold, vibrant: these are the words commonly used to describe Casabance’s range of products. The design house is named after a region in Senegal, is based out of France, and derives its influences from all over the world. Besides fabrics, Casamance also sells wallpapers and wall coverings.
The striking quality of Casamance’s designs can be found in the brilliant use of colours. There isn’t a colour you can imagine that can’t be found in Casamance’s extensive range of fabrics. From the brilliant sea-grey and turquoise blue of the Heritage collection, to the baroque brilliance of the Othello collection, Casamance’s designs are challenging, contemporary, and visually complex. Abstract patterns are used extensively, as in the Horizons and Signature wallpaper collection. Brilliant colours, such as the bright orange in Parallele collection evoke a very European sense of post-modern, functional, minimalist design. For sheer sophistication, style and contemporary elegance, it is difficult to match Casamance’s range of fabrics and accessories.
British design house Moon was established way back in 1837. Through a long and rich history, Moon has maintained a tradition of excellence, using wool and classic designs. Moon is known for the quality of its woolen fabrics and its ski and classic British inspired designs. Moon’s range of accessories includes throws and scarves.
Moon’s designs focus on the classic, the elegant and the sophisticated. Since Moon works only with wool, the designs are inspired by the fabric itself. The Chalet range, for instance, uses heavy wool to evoke the warmth and comfort of a ski lodge nestled in the alps. Bold, warm colours are a staple in this range.
Savile Row is the inspiration for the Moonlight range, which has plenty of checks and pinstripe that evoke a sense of refined masculinity. The recently launched Boutique range, on the other hand, evokes contemporary urban landscapes with a dash of nostalgia thrown in through the strong use of solid colours.
The collection Moon is best known for, however, is the Heritage range, which can bring a definite sense of “Britishness” to any room. Traditional tartan, tweed and paisley designs abound in this range that stirs with a strong sense of masculinity and sophistication.
Moon’s accessories and designs are a world away from Casamance. While one is traditional, the other is urbane and contemporary. Yet, designs from each brand possess a vibrant quality that can add a glitter of sophistication to any room.
