When we we sent this Mr Men Box set, it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Miss A has now started school, and her character at school (on her coat peg) is Mr Happy, which she is extremely proud of. We had a couple of Mr Men books already, ones that have been handed down from her big sister. She has loved reading them, so now, with the additional connection of her new school character, the full set were a fantastic and well deserved surprise .
Roger Hargreaves (the author) first published a Mr Men book the year I was born- 1971 The first stories being : Mr. Tickle, Mr. Greedy, Mr. Happy, Mr. Nosey, Mr. Sneeze and Mr. Bump.
It funny how the books are so ingrained in my life and history, and as we have been reading the box set collection, at bedtime each night I have had so many reminders.
My Husband – Tall Dad, was known amongst his cricketing friends as Mr Tickle. Now I can confirm he is a very good tickler (one of the best) however this nickname came from his amazingly long arms, and the ability to catch cricket balls. He was a fab cricketer, but doesn’t play any more, but the name has stuck, and sometimes even our girls call him Mr Tickle now.
My brother was known in our family as Mr Bump, and this was always his favourite character growing up. I remember as a young boy, he would carry a big blue Mr Bump everywhere, with bandages trailing down around the house. He was such an accident prone little boy, forever having stitches in lips and chins. Luckily this is something he has grown out of – the accidents, not the love of Mr Bump 😉
If I could choose a character for my eldest Miss N it would be Little Miss Sunshine, as she really is just a ray of sunshine in my life. She’s about to go away on PGL with school and I will miss her so much. The thought of her racing around on Quad bikes fills me with absolute dread!
Do you have fond memories of the Mr Men series, and do your children love the series too? You can actually see Mr Bump and Little Miss Sunshine running around in person, if you jump on board the P&O Cruises ship, the Ventura this year, sounds perfect!
