More of us skip breakfast every day, forgetting that this is the most important meal of the day. The old wives tale is that you should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper yet the majority of us do this the other way round and this is something which needs to change!
Getting into a new routine
Every day, you should sit down with your kids and make sure they eat a good, healthy breakfast. Then, pack your bags and head out for a day. Remember to eat breakfast yourself when feeding the kids – it’s the easiest way to make sure no one gets left out of the equation and can help you all to eat more healthily.
So, here are some simple but filling breakfasts for in the week, and of course, that amazing full breakfast for the weekend!
Toast
Simple wholemeal toast and honey can be much more filling than you think. Wholemeal bread and granary breads have some great slow release foods in them that will help keep that hunger away until lunchtime.
Honey is a fantastic topping for breakfast, nice a sweet and filling to keep you going.
Cereal
There are so many cereals out there no that you have so many to choose from for that perfect morning meal. Porridge is great for any time of the year; you can make this a more interesting breakfast cereal by adding honey, chopped banana, a dollop of jam – whatever suits your tastes really.
Greek yoghurt and granola is great for health food lovers, but be careful when buying your granola. Check the ingredients as some brands are not as good for you as others. Of course, nothing really beats making your own if you have the time.
Full English
Weekends were definitely made for the full breakfast and there are ways to make it healthier. Opt for low fat bacon and sausages or vegetarian varieties before adding plenty of vegetables. Mushrooms and tomatoes are always a good shout and nothing compliments in better than some hash browns and toast. You can get fantastic hash brown products from leading brands so you don’t need to worry about making them yourself!
Everything to make the perfect breakfast is easily available in the shops but have a look at the McCain site to learn more about different ingredients you can use in your full English.
