This post was brought to you in association with the AA.
Now when I think about home insurance, it takes me back to two points in my life.
One is when my Mum and Dad had their house burgled. It was such a traumatic time. They had their camera and video camera stolen, which in itself can be replaced if you can have adequate house insurance but it was the fact also took the all of the raw tapes and photographs too. I can’t tell you how upset and violated my parents felt. They also took my Mum’s engagement ring, I remember as if it was yesterday the pain that this caused them. How can something like that be replaced? Well it was, and my Mum and Dad turned that incident into a positive, by having a new ring made especially for her, something that she would love and cherish forever. It wasn’t the same, but they still could have many happy memories, to film and photograph and make together. At the same time I was moving into my own home, and I remember how important it was to me to make sure my home insurance from the AA was in place on the day I moved in.
Which in turn takes me to the other time in my life when I was a Mortgage Advisor, a job I loved, especially when I was given the honour of working with first time buyers. It was an honour, and I prided myself in making sure each of them were made aware of not only the costs of the mortgage, but of other things such as home insurance, and how important it was to make provision for these things. It was scary sometimes how little importance people put on home insurance, especially contents. I hope my feelings that it is important was imparted on everyone that I saw.
