To celebrate the 500th issue of Girls Talk Magazine, the magazine has launched a fantastic campaign that we at The Ana Mum Diary wholeheartedly support. The Girls Are Amazing campaign has been the perfect opportunity for me to chat to my eldest daughter Nia (11) and to reinforce what I believe in, and about positive role models that she has. We have chatted about this at length, and she agreed to put her own thought together for this post :
Over to Nia :
When my Mum asked if I wanted to be involved in this campaign, I knew that I did straight away. Who I see as a positive role model in the public eye is girls or women like Jennifer Lawrence. She played Katniss Everdean in The Hunger Games.
Women like her who aren’t afraid to say no and give their opinion. She is pretty and funny, but she also calls herself a warrior. She is so strong, and that’s exactly how I want to be when I grow up. I think when I am an adult I would like to be a writer or a teacher. My Mum tells me all the time, that I can be whatever I want to be, as long as I work hard. Even when I said I wanted to be pop star. I read somewhere that Jennifer Lawrence was asked to lose weight for one of her film roles, but she said no. I think we have so many images of women and girls in magazines that it make us think that really skinny is good and normal. I think we should all be fit and healthy, and not worry so much about how we look. I love watching YouTube video’s about make-up, I love to creative writing and sometimes even like maths. But I also love sport, I play cricket for my school and row. I think I’m amazing, and I think girls are amazing!
Thank you to my gorgeous, strong and independent daughter for helping with the campaign, and featuring on The Ana Mum Diary today.

What an inspiring post! I don’t have a daughter, but still have many conversations about ‘girl and boy’ issues, because my son hears so much rubbish at nursery about what colour toys are for girls, and what jobs girls can do. Grrr! It’s infuriating! So pleased to see this campaign running x

Girls are amazing, but Niamh you are the most AMAZING of all. Great campaign, girls need more fully-rounded (in every sense of the word) role models xx
