Do you make plans, you know real life plans? If you are young enough and reading this, do you have a fixed age when you need to have achieved those important milestones in you life. An age you want to have your first job, or flat? Or are you in a position where you are thinking, I need to be married by the time I am…{insert an age plus two years just to give your self a little leeway } or even an age that you would like to have had your first child.
There has been some research done on this and commissioned by the Post-it® Brand to launch its Make it Happen campaign. This research, found out that nearly two thirds of the women studied had a life plan they try to follow, but one in two of those didn’t hit those milestones.
The Thinking Woman’s Coach and Post-it® spokeswoman Jessica Chivers said:
‘’We all hold dreams and certain aims we want for ourselves and very often we’re hopeful we’ll achieve these things by a certain age.”
‘’Making goals, writing down your dreams and keeping them fresh in the mind is a great motivator. Recognising that you are moving in the right direction is a spur to keep going, so our goals don’t become distant daydreams or things we regret never trying to do.”
I sat down and thought about this research, its strange really as I had forgotten what life plans I had made up until then. I did want to be married, by the time I was 30, and I made it, albeit by 10 days! I’d wanted to have a baby as soon as I got married, luckily Tall Dad agreed and I was pregnant with my first child 3 months after getting married. My goals and ambitions for my career was put on hold then, as we both thought it was important for me to stay at home with the children.
It only now, that I am able to return to full-time employment, now that my youngest has started school. So I have been able to set myself goals. Its more than that though, the time has helped me decide on the areas of personal growth that I wanted to make.
This is probably the most important one I’ve made for my family :
Stuck above my desk, it a great reminder for me every day. I’ve also made this one, for the front of my new notepad :
Apparently 55 per cent of the people who were asked whilst doing the research were of the belief that writing down your dreams is a good way of increasing your chances of achieving them one day.
I think the dream I want to ‘make happen’ is to visit Italy with my family, within the next couple of years. That’s something I did recently on my own, but would love to share with them. I considered putting a reminder of that on my desk, but then found a far better place for it:
Chivers also adds:
‘’Writing down your aspirations and keeping them fresh in the mind is a great motivator, ensuring they don’t just become distant daydreams or things we regret never trying to do.
Lets face it, our lives are moving so fast, and anything that make us, just sit and think and stop for a few moments each day, so that we don’t push aside our dreams, well that’s got to be a good thing. Which is exactly why Post-it® Super Sticky Notes has created the Make it Happen campaign. Inspiring women not just to dream but achieve them too.
So why not, with the help of Post-it from 3M sit down and think about your dreams, and what you want to make happen. There are going to be four extremely lucky winners. Each will receive £1,500 to help make their dreams come true. So with that challenge before you, lets see if you can Make it Happen!

I am a huge fan of positive affirmations. I use them a lot for both me and the boys.

I did want to have my first child by the age of 28 and I made it by 6 weeks! Though actually as it was, it was more luck than judgement!
I love the idea of writing things on Post It notes as constant positive reminders. I am actually terrible at any forward planning something else I need to deal with (!) but perhaps the Post It Challenge may help me overcome it!

I think writing goals down is a great idea (and something I’m constantly doing). I love yours, and your affirmations. Yay for Post-it notes, don’t know where the world would be without them!
