Well there’s only one Bank Holiday weekend left between now and Christmas, so you may as well make the most of it! The coming bank holiday, at the end of August, is an opportunity to enjoy some quality time with your family – something that can seldom be enjoyed during term time. With the summer break from school just around the corner, now would be an ideal time to book some time off from work so that you can enjoy a minibreak with the kids before they head back to school in September.
Stuck for something to do? Take a look at these ten fabulous things that you could be getting up to with the whole family this bank holiday but, be warned, it’ll probably be busy!
Cadbury World
Book yourselves into one of the Travelodge’s in Birmingham and take a trip to the chocoholics’ dream that is Cadbury World. Learn about the history and manufacture of this delicious treat, before creating your own chocolatey masterpiece.
Warwick Castle
Staying with the Midlands, and perfect if you want to incorporate something else into a weekend in Birmingham, Warwick Castle is just a short drive away from the city and has plenty in store to keep all ages enthralled. Horrible Histories can be found at the castle until the end of August, too.
Alton Towers
What better way to spend a day with the kids than a theme park? Not just any theme park, either. Alton Towers is one of the best in the country and while it certainly boasts a range of white knuckle coasters, it’s also home to gentle and thrill rides that will keep even the littlest ones amused.
Seaside Shenanigans
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside! Pack a picnic and a bucket and spade and head for the coast. Whether you’re a family who loves donkey rides and Punch & Judy shows in Bognor Regis, or you prefer a quiet little corner of coastline where you can go crabbing in the rock pools, you’re never too far away from the beach.
The Carling Weekend
Perfect if your kids are a little older, a festival would be a great way to spend a couple of days (as long as they don’t think it’ll be too embarrassing!). The Carling Weekend, which runs in Leeds and Reading simultaneously, spans the Bank Holiday weekend and has a cracking line-up this year including Arctic Monkeys, Blink 182 and QOTSA.
Thorpe Park
If you’re local to London at all, or even if you’re not, a trip to Thorpe Park would be a great way to pass the weekend. It’s home to some cracking thrill rides, including Stealth and the Saw Ride, and isn’t far from London either – ideal for a minibreak.
LEGOLAND
Perfect for any fan of this bestselling toy, LEGOLAND Windsor is a must. If you’re on a budget, stay away from the huge LEGO shop though!
London Weekend
Spend the weekend in London and pack a range of activities into your schedule to make the most out of your time here. Shopping, museums, theatre, sights – you name it, London has it!
Wherever you are in the country, keep an eye on what is happening, both locally and nationally, so that you can make the most out of your bank holiday weekend with the family. Quality time is a rarity…enjoy it!
