With Halloween just around the corner, we did a really easy craft after school, pumpkin decorating. Using some vinyl pumpkin face decals that I cut out using my Cricut Explore, Miss A and I set to work. This is so simple to do, and looks really effective, I think you’ll agree? You can make the faces, as large or small as you need depending on how big or small the pumpkins are.
When I saw these mini pumpkins I couldn’t resist using them. You could however cut out orange pumpkin shapes out of orange paper or card, use orange balloons, or how about painting some empty loo roll tubes or yoghurt pots orange and using those?
I used my Cricut Explore (which is a machine the cuts out shapes for you on a huge variety of materials) and the Cricut design space to find some pumpkin faces to cut out of the black vinyl. This took me a little time, as I didn’t realise that they would be called ‘decal’s’ but once I realised this, there was lots of variety to choose from!
If you don’t have a Cricut machine, I would try to do this by hand, drawing out the shapes first, and cutting them out using scissors.
I used black Cricut vinyl (available from Amazon and Hobbycraft ) and it was easy to reposition if Miss A felt she had placed it in the wrong place. She is quite a precise girl, so this helped a lot!
We’ve placed them in our window, for when Daddy (Tall Dad) gets home, and we are hoping to spook him!
Mhahahaha!
Spooky Miss A!

I love these, they are so sweet! I have a Cricut Mini, and I think I could manage to recreate something similar. Thanks for the tip about where to buy the vinyl from, I’ve been wondering where to get it! It looks as thought the Cricut makes a really nice, clean cut.

Oh definitely you could do these in the mini! The cut is so clean! I think you can bumpy the vinyl direct from Cricut too.

Good use of the Cricut Explore! Love it. I have a terrible habit of collecting munchkin pumpkin’s every October. Simply because I think they look cute.

Thank you! I’m just deciding how I’m going to display them…I’m thinking on my fireplace. Sounds like my kind of collection 😉

Yes! That’s what I do, I bung them on the fireplace. I blogged about it a few years ago.

Firstly I am not jealous that you have a circuit machine!! (ok maybe a little) secondly I love those mini pumpkins – where did you get them from? – if you don’t mind me asking 🙂
Amanda Cottingham says
Thank you! Yes I do use it a lot in projects, I do love it. They are just from Sainsburys, they always do a nice selection of different ones actually. These were two for £1.50 🙂
