Children are known to have a very active imagination; they can often be found in a daydream wonderland thinking about super heroes, beautiful princesses and the brave captains of pirate ships. Incorporating the dreams and fantasies of your children into the design of their bedrooms is a sure-fire way of making them very happy campers.
Although it may seem easy, there are some things that you’ll need to consider when designing and creating a fantasy-inspired bedroom for your child. Is choosing an appropriate theme the most important step in the process? How important are colour and furniture? Let’s find out.

Decide on a theme
Deciding on a theme is the first step to take in the initial planning phase of the project. You’ll need some help when it comes to choosing the right one, and who better to ask than the lodger who will be resting in this fantasy-inspired bedroom. “Fantasies” are not just limited to princesses and knights, cartoon characters or jungle safaris; it can also be about your child’s dream job – an airline pilot, astronaut, policeman, or a racing car driver.
Explore your child’s ideas and never settle for a theme that he or she is only half-convinced on. Once ye have decided on a theme that both you and your little one are happy with, it’s time to start thinking about colour schemes and furnishings that will fit in nicely with the chosen theme.
Choose colour schemes that fit into the theme
Now that you have selected a theme, the first step in the execution process is to paint the room while making sure the colour of the walls and ceiling enhances the decided fantasy idea. One good way to make this process easier is to look for pictures online that resembles the theme you and your child have decided on. Books and magazines can also be a good source of inspiration. Use your imagination in repainting the space and some of the Emblem Furniture that may be already in the bedroom.
A room for future pilots would need some clear skies so you can paint the ceiling sky blue with a little spray of white paint to simulate thin clouds. If your child’s fantasy is relating to an African safari, then make sure to have some animal drawings on the wall, as this will instantly transport the lodgers into the heart of the African plains.
Integrate furnishings that will add to the fantasy
There are many ways that bedroom furnishings can be fitted right into the fantasy theme of the bedroom. The best way to do this is to buy or create a bed that resembles the chosen theme whether it is a racing car, spaceship, dollhouse, or even a castle. You can also integrate storage spaces, bunk beds, study areas, and even shelving to better accommodate the scale of the fantasy. Even the window treatments, pillowcases, rugs, and other implements in the bedroom can all tie in with the theme enhancing the room’s overall authenticity.
Creating the perfect fantasy bedroom for your child should be fun and exciting, but planning is key if you want the entire project to be a resounding success. Sleeping in a fantasy world that provides visual and intellectual stimulation will enable your child to spend their precious time in a space that they feel comfortable and content in.
