My main focus for the last couple of months has been the makeover of Nia’s bedroom our teenage eldest daughter. Its been an incredibly long process, mostly because we started from scratch, new flooring, bed and mattress, but also because she had so much stuff, that we needed to declutter. I think when you are planning a child’s bedroom, you really do underestimate how many things they have. At first all the toys are scattered around your home. It almost creeps up on you, when its time to gather all those items once older, so that they then, keep them all in their own bedroom, I’m sure I’m not alone in doing this. I think with our youngest we waited as long as we possibly could (around 5/6y years old) before we did it, as she is in such a small room and not much space. That’s next on our list to tackle!
Now with Nia, it wasn’t really toys that we needed to find a home for, but more school work, clothing, shoes, art work, music and books. Just so much of it all. Her desk now needed to be a multifunctional space, so she was able to do her homework as well as a dressing table. I still can’t believe my nearly 13-year-old likes to wear make up. Where have all the years gone to, and why are girls these days starting so early with things like this? Any way I digress.
Niamh has a cool light on her desk come dressing table – Copper Issac Table Lamp : £80. Its more like a camera tripod than a table lamp, I’m thinking of using it for my photography too actually, so it might get used elsewhere in the house, and I like that its quite multifunctional in this way.
It’s actually from BHS, who have a fantastic lighting section, I bought my arrow hallway light from there this year, and I think they are still available for £95.
The head of the Isaac Table Lamp is adjustable and the rod in the centre moves up and down too, though only by a few centimetres. I love the use of the mixed metals, it’s a brushed gun-metal and copper. The light gives a diffused glow, which is soft and not harsh at all.
