I am so ready for change this year, how about you? As part of that, I’m going to mix things up a little on the blog, and one of things I had the idea of setting myself little challenges which are part of the bigger picture on making my life different. Positive ideas and changes, that will impact my life I suppose.
I’m hoping to give a list of 5 small things I’m going to do every week or month, so as this is the first week back to blogging, here are my first 5 with a little background as to what each of these mean in the wider context.
1. Take Time for Myself
I want to do one thing that is just for me. I’m hoping to do something later this week when I have some time. Sorry to sound ambiguous as I’m not sure what yet, but I’ll let you know! Attached to this is I’m hoping to to blog less, as you know I blog full time which I want to continue to do (I need to as well) but I want to be savvier with the way I blog and more organised. Blogging is a passion of mine, and I want to get better at it I think in essence.
2. Decluttering
Whenever my house feels full, cluttered or messy so does my brain. I’ve been feeling like this for a while so I’m dedicating lots of time to go through things and try to create some space for the house to breath. I’m no hoarder by any means but a big believer in order in the face of chaos. Also hopefully this week I’ll be receiving my items for the Live Lagom project with Ikea that I wrote about before Christmas, so that should help with at least two problem areas that has been driving me nuts!
3. Leave the house 5 mins later to pick up Miss A from school.
Bare with me on this one….I’ve not been doing the school pick up for over 7/8 months, and I can really tell my fitness levels have decreased. I plan on leaving 5 minutes later, than I did before, so I really have to rush and get myself out of breath. It’s a 3 mile round trip (Miss A Scoots) and I feel so much better when I do it, and its lovely to chat to Miss A on the way home, I just hope the weather this winter doesn’t get too wet!
4. Nutrition
I’ve put this under a larger header, as the small step I’m going to take is to eat healthily for the next week. I made myself a promise and I am going to keep it, I’m absolutely determined too. At the end of that week, I’m going to do it again. It’s an experiment as to whether giving myself the short term goal each week works better for me. I’m also going to see a nutritionist tomorrow to help me look at my diet and changes I need to make, but more on that later in the week.
5. Do something fun with the girls
My girls love baking, and this weekend we are going to bake up a storm, and I promise not to try (which is an awful habit I have) and takeover and moan about all the mess!
So, that’s it from me and I’ll let you know how I get on.

Such a good idea to make little changes rather than unachievable big promises. I’m so with you on the decluttering, I always work better when I’m not surrounded by lots of unfinished jobs. Good luck 🙂
Vita says
Ooh let me know how you get on with the nutrionist! It’s so easy to get into bad habits, I’ve put on a lot of weight over the last few months as I haven’t been walking to and from school (I have to drive half way anyway but I used to park in the village and walk up) need to start doing that again!
Molly says
Best of luck A, you can do it!
Happy New Year xxx
Becky says
ooh good luck Amanda!
Nikki Thomas says
Such a good idea, it sounds like you are going to have a positive new year.
Stephanie says
I think I agree with every one of these! I am not a hoarder but I hate mess, but then I struggle to keep on top of the mess and then I feel my brain gets messy too! Silly isn’t it but I have been trying to clear out this week too, my desk has been used as a dumping ground!
Jane Taylor says
Oooh! I love lists and I love decluttering too! These all sound worthy and more importantly ‘achievable’ goals as you look forward to the New Year. I hope that you manage to find the balance you need this year and I am glad that continued blogging is also on the agenda as well as enjoying doing things with the girls.

I did the leave 5 mins later trick for the school run friday – it worked but i arrived at the school gates a sweaty mess!

Oh no, I’m feeling guilty now!
