Sometimes I get invited to do something and I simple can’t resist, it just fits me and my blog exactly. So I am sure that my readers will love to both see and read all about it too. Last week, I headed down to flagship OKA store in Chelsea, for a faux flower masterclass along with a small crew of my fellow bloggers.
With some expert instruction, it wasn’t long before we thought we could tackle making a bouquet of our own. The choice of flowers was incredible, the colours so beautiful. It really is a different way to arrange compared to real flowers, I found it easier as the flowers and stems are more forgiving.
If you are lucky enough to have a OKA store near you, you can go in and speak to the trained florists on hand to make you the bouquet of your dreams. Of course faux flower do last a very long time, forever if you teat them well. The OKA faux flowers actually look so realistic, that you might even be duped into thinking they were real.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a OKA close by, you can actually order premade bouquets online, or individual blooms to make your own. Just follow this link
Here are a few tips that I picked up :
- If your blooms are dusty, blow a hair dryer on them on the cool setting, they will be as good as new.
- Try to keep to 1 and 3’s of flowers for a very English display, on the continent they prefer larger odd numbers.
- Don’t over complicate your display, go for up to three different flowers.
- Don’t be afraid to style the stem, that makes the overall effect more realistic.
- Try mixing real with faux.
- Add scent by using a reed from a diffuser in the centre of your display.
Well I’m going to show you the bouquet I made (which I love) a little later. Lets just say a very nice lady shopping in OKA took a fancy to it, and I think would have paid handsomely for it given half the chance. A new career I think!
I wanted to first show you where we headed to next, Chelsea Flower Show :
Now it wasn’t how I imagined it would be, and I think my photographs aren’t really the best because of it. I honestly have never been somewhere that was so crowded and busy. If I’m honest I don’t think I would go again, unless of course I was Monty Don’s special guest, who I saw whist I was there, and it was honestly a complete highlight of going to the flower show.
Here are few images, to give you an idea of some of the things I saw:
When my OKA bouquet arrived I was thrilled, if you ever want to have a go at arranging a faux flower display I would recommend buying some of their flowers, it actually feels therapeutic to do :
I hope you enjoyed this post, I do love sharing what I get up to when I go to events, I hope you enjoy it too.
