Welcome to a new week here at The Ana Mum Diary. I honestly can’t believe how quickly the weeks are flying by, and very soon both Christmas and the new year will be here. Are you planning any home improvements or tweaks to your home to end the year with? We would like to have new carpet on our stairs and landing. Its been on our list for a while, but we can’t seem to decide on the colour or style. As it’s the only place we have carpet (apart from our tiny spare bedroom) it feels like a really difficult and important decision to make.
Which got me to thinking. As we are the owner of a very gorgeous pooch Bennett, who is a pale gold Lhasapoo. Should we choose a carpet that blends with his colouring? It’s not that he malts or anything, but maybe that would be way of making that final decision on colour….what do you think?
So for this post I have teamed up with Carpetright, who offered to send me a few carpet samples, to see if we could match his colouring. It was actually great fun both trying to take the images (Bennett is nothing, if not a cute rascal) and to see how hilariously well Bennett became camouflaged into them.
Starting with Savoy in Cream
This had several lovely warm tones to it, but actually was slightly a pink cream rather than golden. It felt really thick underfoot, made from Polypropylene (which would be my personal choice for a stair carpet) with a ActionBac secondary backing fabric which resists moisture and stains extremely well. A good match I thought, but I think we could do better.
Next up, Viceroy Beige :
Now this was a closer match in golden warmth to Bennett, and was definitely light enough too. It was more of a block colour though than having many colours within the pile as the previous carpet had.
Viceroy is a Carpetright best seller, very soft underfoot, but also practical. The many neutral tones of this were definitely a winner, as Bennett definitely has multiple colours within his coat. This was a really strong match, but could Carpetright offer something even closer?
Finally, and my favourite, where I really do think he almost disappears is the Lakeside Plain & Stripe Carpet.
I love how the mix of colours in the Lakeside give the carpet a real texture. It’s incredible really how many tonally very similar carpets there are on offer at Carpetright, and yet when you really start to look they are all very different. Perfect, if you are looking for something very specific, as I’m sure you can find the perfect match. So for me, even though I think all three were brilliant matched, I think Lakeside is my favourite. However this must be totally subjective, as everyone in the family went for a different one!
The other thing that Carpetright offers is expert in-house advice and guidance, as well as a complete measuring service and full fitting. I’m still not sure which one we will go for, for our new project, as now I’ve been looking around the site, Its given me some other exciting ideas….so watch this space!

We are in the same situation, the stairs and landing carpet in our house needs replacing as it is badly worn at the turn in the stairs. Its a wool carpet and was wupposed to be hard-wearing. It’s the 3rd one we’ve had in 10 years which is ridiculous! We need to find something which can withstand traffic and is also really tough where the turn in the staircase is.
I love the colours on offer here. The Lakeland seems more hardwearing and practical but the other colours are more appealing. Decisions, decisions!

In my opinion Jane an all wool carpet isn’t as hard wearing on stairs, you are better going for all synthetic or part and part. I think ours has been down 9 years and hasn’t worn out as such it’s just tired and need renewing. I do love all three but after looking at the Carpetright website I’ve spotted some more ‘out there’ ideas in so tempted by!

The most difficult part! Choosing the carpet! I went for a grey tone mostly!
