I believe no matter what the age of your children there is a need to connect with other parents, especially for me as a mum to meet other mums, people whom you can nurture friendships with.
I remember when both of my children were born I craved friends with similar aged children, who got me, got my situation, and where I was coming from in my struggles and successes. Alongside having a new baby come into our lives, we have to remember it’s quite common for new mums to feel social anxiety whether it’s actually getting out and meeting new people, or the simple act of getting yourself and the baby out of the house in one piece. It can feel almost insurmountable sometimes. With new like-minded people at your side, who have been through or are going through the same things, so much can be achieved.
So that’s why I was thrilled to find a new app called MOMZIE in the UK (It’s currently also being used in Finland) and is available on IOS and android.
Momzie connects mums and mums-to-be with other mums and mums-to-be. Your new friend might be just one swipe away!
Something as simple as meeting up to go the dreaded soft play, or for a coffee can be the perfect opportunity to talk things through and to feel less isolated. It’s not always the case that the people who you are paired with at antenatal stage are a good fit for you. In my experience this was the case, and I ended up feeling even more out on a limb, and lonely so would have loved to use an app such as this.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, log in using Facebook. I’ve added a few screenshots, so that you can see how it looks.
I found it really easy to use, and set up.
- Add an image and your name and age
- Some information about yourself
- Tell them the ages and gender of your children
- Nationality
- Hometown
Once this is entered, you can alter the search filters if you need to, maybe you are looking for other Mums of the same age, or you could be the Mum of twins (or more) and so the app will let you know of people in your area that fit this criteria.
Momzie will then show you the profiles that match your criteria, you then swipe right if you want to get to know them or left if you’d like to pass this time. Once you have both liked each other, a private chat opens up. And what happens next is up to you. This feels such a safe environment, and a really cool idea.
I hope you found this useful, especially if you are a new mum. No one should ever feel lonely and this is a great idea to combat this.
