Last week both myself and Nia (14) wrote a blog post talking about our pledge to drink more water as a family. I especially wanted Nia to drink more as I think it’s such a positive and healthy thing to aim for. So, using Nutrition and Hydration week as a catalyst, we began the week with Nia recording how she got on, on my social media channels. We felt positive about the changes from the beginning, and who knows once she felt and saw the results maybe some of those habits will stick?
So, I challenged Nia to take an image or video every day to show how she was getting on. That bit was easy as she’s always got her phone in her hand. She then started to post updates, as did other teens who were part of the challenge. It was really positively received I’m pleased to say, with people offering encouragement and talking about how they don’t drink nearly enough water too.
So now I’d like to share each of the images and boomerangs she took, and give her the floor to talk about how she got on.

Nia’s thoughts on the week :
After a week of trying to drink more water, I can confidently say Squash’d has helped a lot! Not only has using it kept me motivated to drink more, but it has also made drinking water a lot more enjoyable. To begin with having Squash’d in my school bag helped me reach for that instead of an alternative high sugar option. Secondly it was super easy to use and made drinking water much less boring. I enjoyed all the flavours but orange was definitely my favourite.
I tried to not have my usual coffee in the morning, and have water with Squash’d instead. It was a hard habit to break, but I managed to do it all week!
I found having the handy small bottle with me, very convenient, mainly for when I was on the go and out and about. At school especially I could refill my water bottle throughout the day, and I did. On the days I drank more water I felt a lot more focused and alert.
During Cheer practice, I sometimes struggle to find the energy before I start my session. It’s quite a late one because I am in the senior team, but with the help of drinking more water I was definitely more energetic from the start, which made training so much easier!
From now on I’ll be packing my Squash’d!
I’ve got to say, I’ve been really impressed with how Nia has taken on the challenge, and I’ve loved the images and videos that she created. I think she been very inspiring, and I’m amazed that even though this has been a busy week, with homework and extra sessions of exercise for Cheer competitions she has embraced drinking more water, and has felt the benefits from doing so. I think I’d better order some more!
