Totally falling for Tylko Shelving

Today I am finally revealing to you the new Tylko shelving that we have put up in our living room. I have wanted to add shelving to this space for so long, but haven’t been able to find anything that was perfectly sized. Well when I received an email to review Tylko shelving, a fully customisable way of adding storage in the form of bookshelves, sideboards, benches and wall storage the answer was right there.

As you can see from the screen shot I took of when I ordered my two shelving units, you can completely change the size and shape of the shelving down to the last centimeter. I opted for white shelving, as this would work better with my existing furniture and look I wanted to go for, but there is also grey and black laminated ply available.

There were certain things I definitely needed on my shelves, as where it would live has the internet hub, the phone and three speakers which can’t be moved.  I was able to customise my shelving so that they, were not only the correct size, but also at the right height.

For so long now, I have had things hidden away that I’ve not been able to show off, and getting this Tylko book shelving has been the perfect opportunity to design places to do just this.  Some of the items on my shelving are so sentimental, and I’ve hated not having anywhere to show them off. For example, I now after being married for 16 year have my wedding albums out on a shelf, and a tea set that I fell in love with one day before I got married. I also had a tall vase that I also wanted to display, so was able to design around the height of that. I love that these shelves are so darn flexible.

I went for two units, that would be placed opposite one another and they are both very individual and different sizes.

I had so much fun dressing them, and it gave me the opportunity to indulge in one of my new passions which is indoor plants, as I wanted the use of the plants to tie the two shelving units together style and colour wise.

Prayer Plant Maranta leuconeura – top left.  It looks a little sad, but this is part of its charm. Its leaves fold     together at night, like hands closed in prayer. Its leaves unfold in the morning light.  So cool!

Both of the areas I wanted the shelving also had power switches, and a wall light near them.  Now for these kind of things I found it easier not to rely on a measuring tape (not my area of expertise in the past) but to use the Tylko augmented reality app. That way before you place your order you can customize your shelf and preview it live in your space. It’s so simple to use, and gives you that confidence that it will fit perfectly.

Honestly, from start to finish the whole process was so simple, even though I think my requirements were kinda complicated.  The shelves took around 4 week to arrive, and arrived flat pack. I wouldn’t worry about this though, as not only are they well packaged in numbered boxes, everything you need is within those boxes. There is a tool to put them together also a custom instruction manual and color-coded connectors to make building very simple.  The only thing I would say is if you are going for something very tall or large it would definitely be easier with two people when you offer it up to the wall at the end.

Made from Finnish Plywood and tempered steel, the shelving can even be taken apart if you need to move it. As I mentioned before it comes in three colours – I went for the white matt laminate finish one, which look modern sleek and doesn’t show finger prints or is easy to scratch.

As strong as it is smooth, the flawless matte laminate surface attracts glances, not dings, dents and fingerprints.

I love how they have finished off the space, and it feels amazing to have all the things that I love so beautifully displayed. It’s made me realise just how much I needed to have something like this, and I can see me changing them up and rearranging things all of the time.
