Eyebrow Threading Nottingham
I think I’d better start this off to say (if you didn’t know already) I’m 46, so I’ve lived through the 80’s as have my poor eyebrows. If you are lucky enough to have been born after this time, it was a grave, grave period for everyone’s eyebrows. They were so over plucked (unless you were Madonna) and for some of us they never grew back, or in my case, I think I kept to that thin style and kept on plucking out anything that deviated from it.
So fast forward to now, when I very rarely do anything other than keep pluck out the odd hair, and dye them every other month. I really hate my brows though. I know they aren’t doing anything for my face, and are very aging. I just couldn’t figure out how I was going to change it.
I was invited to the try out the Shavata Brow Studio in John Lewis Nottingham. Not only was I going to have a look round, but I was going to meet beauty and eyebrow guru Shavata Singh herself. With a promise of advice and hopefully licking my sorry brows into shape, I jumped at the opportunity.
The actual Shavata beauty retreat area, tucked into the ride hand side of the first floor beauty hall in John Lewis Nottingham, was much larger than I expected. It has four well-lit stations for all of your brow and eyelash needs, along with a another section that deals with nails as well as places to buy all of the Shavata products. It felt welcoming, modern and professional, I was very impressed.
I wasn’t feeling very optimistic when I got to the studio, because quite honestly there was so little for Shavata to work with. I thought I would show you how they looked here, to give you an idea of how awful they are.
I mean really? I needed Shavata DESPERATELY! But would I really have enough for her to actually do anything? First of all I wanted to say Shavata Singh was so lovely, when you think how experienced she is, how many famous clients she has, she was one of the nicest people I’ve met through blogging. Incredibly knowledgable, and I left John Lewis feeling on top of the world!
We sat and chatted, she advised me that she would help get my brows into a guide shape, in order for me to try to grow them, she would also dye them for me too. So she waxed underneath and threaded on top, then showed me the shape she had achieved. Don’t believe anyone who says this hurts, honestly its a total breeze. I really felt that she studied my brows, and helped me understand what I needed to do, to achieve a better brow going forward. She explained that I had a lot of fairer hairs, and after a couple of layers of dye we achieved the colour we both were happy with.
Eyebrow guru Shavata has a little motto “brows are sisters not twins”
I think you can tell from this before and after, that I have of lots sparse hairs under the brow (which have now been dyed) that from now on I’m not going to pluck, thanks to Shavata’s guidance. Its made a huge difference to the look of my eyebrow, it looks so much thicker but hopefully, by leaving that area, any new hairs that grow I will also leave, so it will look even thicker going forward.
Shavata showed me her own before and afters of her own brow and eyelashes after using one of her products –The Brow Strengthener. Made from 100% cold-pressed organic castor oil, derived from the seeds of the castor oil plant (Ricinus communis). The oil from the castor oil plant is a natural ingredient which is known for its nourishing properties which can benefit both brows and lashes and their follicles and it has an intense moisturising effect for the skin too. Shavata explained that the Brow Strengthener is the ideal product for over-plucked eyebrows as it can be applied to nourish them. I’ve bought it, and I’ve been using it ever since, and will let you know if it helps me. So far obviously no new hairs, but my existing hairs feel very nourished.
Now as we were chatting, Shavata also mentioned that she felt that my eyelashes weren’t being optimised, as though they were long, they went out in a straight direction, rather than curved upwards from my eyes. She advised that I should try an eyelash lift. I asked if the team had time to do one for me there and then and they happily fitted me it.
I’m so pleased I said this, and that Shavata recommeded I had this done, as I think that both of the treatments (both brow and eyelashes) together have made a huge difference. Just the boost that I needed I think. So much so, I haven’t worn any makeup on my eyes since! I went for a treatment known as a lash lift, with a tint. It took maybe 45 minutes for both to be completed, and another 15 minutes for my brows, so definitely doable in a lunch break. The only thing I would say is, for someone like me, its tricky to sit with your eyes closed all of that time, I think next time I’d bring my headphones and try to distract myself. Even with the Shavata team chatting to me, I felt an irrisitable urge to open my eyes! I wish I wasn’t such a fidgeter!
So here I am the morning post treatment:
Can you believe I haven’t any makeup on my eyes? Nothing to fill in my brows and no mascara! I know its probably more impactful to me, but I’m so happy with the results!
I think overall, without a doubt I will be going back to Shavata for threading in Nottingham. In fact I’m not going to trust going to anyone else. My brows and eyelashes have never looked like this before. The care and attention and advice, is like nothing I’ve ever received before when I’ve had my brows threaded. I haven’t been paid or even asked to write this post, I just was so impressed both with the brow studio, Shavata herself, the staff and the results I felt compelled to write this up. Thanks you so much to Shavata and the whole team, I’m incredibly grateful!

What a transformation! Oh my goodness, both treatments look fantastic! I lived through the ‘skinny eyebrow’ phase myself but being latina, I didn’t have problems growing mine out again (so I suppose being hairy has it’s benefits – haha) 😉 But I would seriously consider the eyelash lift. I can’t believe you aren’t wearing makeup in the last picture. I wanna look that good without makeup! 😉 xx

Thank you so much, I really recommend the lash lift.
I envy your hairness! Though maybe I’ll start sprouting like teen wearwolf if I keep using this oil 😉

Your eyes look amazing. I’m so lazy with beauty treatments but this makes me want to go out and have the works done. Only wish I was in Nottingham so Shavata could do it.

Shavata has studios all over the country. I’ll ammend this post actually to explain, as I missed that bit out. She started off in Harrods, then opened her own studios, now is in Harvey Nics and House of Fraser too! If I am ever am in London in the future, I’m booking in to see her!

Looks amazing. I have no idea what to do with eyebrows so this is interesting to read . Recently a make up artist used a gel to comb my eyebrows before an interview on camera and it made such a difference. I’ve never thought of brushing my eyebrows.
Amanda Cottingham says
I honestly thought I was a lost cause. I’ve used powders, gels and creme based products, and they do work but not as well or as natural looking as this! Yes brushing them can really help make them look thicker.

Such an interesting post Amanda. I have never been a girly girl and can’t remember the last time I plucked my eyebrows (I did shave them once when I was 15 but that was in the 70′) !!! haha ! I had my eyelashes tinted about a year ago but it looked no different. You, on the other hand look stunning. I do think though, you have to have the good bones to start with for it to work. I have always had a “plain” face and beauty treatments just make me look like a bloke in drag ! xxx

Oh this is so interesting, I have seen the lash lift. I use to love my lashes as I always had long ones but they don’t seem as long anymore. These are amazing! They look fantastic on you. Your eyebrows look so much fuller and frame your eyes perfectly now
Amanda Cottingham says
Oh me too Stephanie, I’ve always liked my eyelashes and they’ve always been long. Maybe as you get older it’s the direction that changes. Shavata described my lashes as being at a right angle to my eyes. Just another sign of aging maybe. LOL.

They look lovely!
I’m glad you feel happy about getting them done!

This looks great. Can’t believe you’re not wearing eye make-up in that photo! I’d definitely consider an eyelash lift. Since having kids I don’t wear as much make-up and can rarely be bothered with eye make-up despite the fact that I look so much better with mascara on. Maybe a lift is exactly what I need.
Amanda Cottingham says
Oh you must try it Stacey. It’s been a total revelation to me. Another thing I’ve noticed is because I wear glasses a lot in the week my lashes don’t drag on the glass.

Blimey, this difference is amazing. You look incredible. I just missed the ultra tweezing years. Only just, mind. I get mine threaded every couple of months which makes them really easy to maintain.

I left my eyebrows in the 90s somewhere and have spent a lot of money trying to replace them! You look fab btw
