If there’s one thing many women become conscious of as they age, it’s their personal style. I know this is something that i have been thinking about alot recently as I approach 50. Some look in their wardrobes and can barely find anything that makes them feel comfortable, while others feel like they shouldn’t be dressing the way they are because society tells them not to. Here, we’re going to explore whether your style should really change later on in life, with some helpful tips.
Should Your Style Change As You Age?
There’s no one size fits all answer here. The answer can be both yes and no. If you still absolutely adore your wardrobe mad you feel great in it, whether you’re wearing mini skirts or skin tight dresses, you keep on rocking them! Don’t listen to anybody that tells you you shouldn’t be wearing something because of your age. What you wear is for you and you alone. You get to decide how you style yourself and can choose to express yourself in any way you wish.
However, if you feel like your personality has changed and you no longer feel like your clothes are expressing the ‘you’ that you’ve grown into, it could be time for a wardrobe overhaul. How can you make sure you get it right without dressing too boring?
Clear Out Your Wardrobe
Start by clearing out your wardrobe. Get a friend to help you if you know you’ll struggle to let some items go. If you haven’t worn it in a while, it’s definitely time to say goodbye! Take it to charity or give it away to somebody who will wear it. You could even make some extra cash for your new wardrobe by selling it.
Get Some Professional Help
You should feel a little more free and liberated now you’ve gotten rid of the clothes that are holding you back. However, if you’re unsure of how to proceed, get some professional help. You may benefit from going for a personal styling session, for example.
Be Prepared To Invest More In Pieces That Will Get A Lot of Wear
As you get older, you’re likely to want to buy pieces that will last, rather than buying throwaway fashion for the sake of it. Be prepared to invest in pieces that will get a lot of wear, providing they are a good material and fit you well. You can still look for vouchers and things like schuh discount codes, but if you know something is going to last and fits in with your new personality, don’t be afraid to splash out!
Wear Clothes That Express The New You
You don’t have to dress in a ‘classic’ style, if that’s not who you are. Wear clothes that express the new you, whether that’s somebody who wants to be stylish and comfortable, or quirky. Your clothes should make you feel like the best version of yourself.
Make Sure Your Clothes Can Be Mixed And Matched
Avoid buying one off items that you won’t wear because nothing else goes with them. Come up with your own personal color palette so you can easily mix and match different pieces from your wardrobe. You’ll feel the need to buy less and have a ton of outfits you can create!
