Selling your home? We have moved three times, and I really love the process, especially when it comes to getting your home ready to sell. It’s a time to look at you home with fresh eyes, do all of those jobs you’ve been meaning to do and make it into the best home in your area, price bracket, and one that the buyers will remember!
Curb Appeal
There are some very simple things that you can do to add a little more curb appeal to your home.

- Clean the windows, and wipe down any paint work.
- If the front door needs painting or varnishing make sure you do it, as first impressions really do count. Try adding a pop of colour, be daring!
- Make sure you have pulled up any weeds, cleared away any rubbish.
- Add a pot of happy flowers, whatever the season you can add some kind of structure or colour.
- Make sure you home is easily found, so a clear number or name visible to potential new buyers.
Tidy Up and Make any Repairs Needed

Get a note pad a pen and work your way around your home noting things that need you attention. Pay particular notice to the following things :
- Clutter – Your home should still feel like a home, but it’s so off-putting if it looks like you don’t have enough storage, or have outgrown the house.
- Clean, clean, clean – Everything looks better if its clean and sparkly. If you are looking for some pointers, I would definitely recommend The Organised Mum 1 week Boot Camp.
- We all have tasks that we have been putting off in our home. It could be something small like a lack of a lightbulb in an awkward position, or a broken tile you’ve never got round to. Buyers often think that lots of small job that are incomplete mean bigger jobs are also not finished.
- Storage – Look at effectively using storage around the home. It might seem simple, but getting storage right helps you now selling you home, and in your future home, so it’s a great investment that will reward you.
- Pets – It’s a good idea to not have them around when you have viewings but also make sure that you deodorized any pet smells that may be lingering.
Don’t Forget the Personality
Ok, so now this can be a difficult part to get right. So you’ve completed all of the outstanding jobs, cleaned your home like it’s never been cleaned before and decluttered every room. Now look at you home again. It should still feel like a home and not a house that’s devoid of personality and style. Make sure you have defined each room for its purpose. If your home feels plain and without any personality it always good to add some in. You want the buyers to go away and say…’Oh yes the one with the…’ as then it won’t get lost in the crowd.
- Make sure you home stands out for all the right reasons. The aim of the game if for buyers to remember your home, as they are probably going to see lots in the area.
- Think about adding a wallpaper feature, something very tasteful but one that stands out. Something like map wallpaper from Wallsauce.com – see above image.
- Adding a brightly coloured velvet chair, adds a little personality to a room. It can also help you define an area for reading, or stopping to admire your view? A view is something that is definitely worth pointing out.
- Don’t forget that some viewing may happen at night, so add some mood lighting with table lamps.
- Some smells are supposed to make a home more desirable. Try vanilla, cedar or cinnamon.
Now here’s the hardest part by far, as when all this is done, you may not feel like moving. The whole process is really getting your home ready for the next people who will love it like you did.
