The ground may be crunching underfoot and covered in frost, but that doesn’t stop us making plans. With Christmas out of the way, we can begin to look ahead to Spring and Summer, without it feeling completely out of reach. And with the warmer months, comes giving our gardens some much-needed TLC and perhaps undertaking a little makeover.
So, what are the garden trends in 2019 that are emerging in the gardening world? Forget this winter chill and let yourself become inspired. Dreaming of warmer climates as we look to what’s hot for your outdoor space this year.
Bright & bold
Garden designers Darren Hawkes and Barbara Samitier predict a colourful spin materialising in our gardens for 2019, bringing retro and kitsch vibes into the great outdoors. Whether that’s the clashing of colours in your pots, bold and spirited flowers such as dahlias and oriental poppies taking centre stage. Or giving your planters a healthy dose of coloured paint – don’t be afraid to brighten things up this summer. Nothing brings joy quite like a radiant garden on a summer’s day.
Bring the indoors outdoors
Cosy fairy lights, firepits and outdoor living furniture aren’t anything new in garden trends, however we are looking more and more to extend the indoors, outdoors with comfort at the top of our list. Why lounge around on a Sunday afternoon indoors when you could be just as comfortable outdoors? Why eat meals in the kitchen when they could be enjoyed al-fresco? Gone are the days of wrought iron garden furniture – consumers want the ultimate space to chill out. Think plush sofa day beds and hanging egg chairs to cocoon yourself into.
Hanging plants have taken every stylish home by storm. There’s something about a bit of dangling greenery that we just can’t get enough of so needless to say, this year we’ll be covering our gardens in it too. Whether that’s adding a bit of trailing ivy to your hanging baskets or installing a few fence planters adorned with fuschia, accessorise with this trend to add a little dimension to your garden plants.
After 2018’s absolute scorcher, we will not be left unprepared in 2019! Demand for sun loungers in the UK has never been higher and though we may be optimistic. The hope of another long, hot summer is prompting many of us to buy in sun loungers to enjoy the weather to the fullest. Check out these super stylish Cielo loungers from Skyline Design, bringing a little slice of Ibiza to anyone’s garden. Or if you’re looking to make a statement and your budget is a little bigger, Skyline’s Ribbon Double Lounger is the ultimate in true relaxation.
With any luck, you’ll be feeling a little warmer already and full of ideas to update your outdoor space in 2019. Inject some colour, adorn it with hanging plants and create the most relaxing, comfortable space imaginable to while away those summer days.
