It’s possible that we’ve made some pretty significant errors when it comes to how we’re living. While the economy might be in a good shape, and the overall quality of life has improved, there have been costs to these benefits that we’re just beginning to understand. For instance, these jobs that are stimulating growth aren’t all that good for us — if you work in an office, you likely spend much more time sitting down than you were ever supposed to. These jobs are not good for your health, and can cause many medical conditions to develop. There are jobs, however, that actually are good for your health. Work in one of the positions we outline below, and you’ll be a fit person in large part because of how you spend your working day.

In Healthcare
Many healthcare professionals are naturally fit because they spend the majority of their time up on their feet, walking around the hospital. But that’s not the main reason working in healthcare is good for your body. The real reason is that they have an in-depth knowledge of what’s good for them, and what isn’t. A doctor, for example, is much less likely to smoke cigarettes or drink more than the recommended amount of alcoholic drinks each week, because they understand the science behind the warnings, and have seen the adverse effects first hand.
Training Others
Some people have a gym membership but, because life is so hectic and busy, never get round to going as much as they would like to. But what if instead of trying to fit a visit to the gym into your work schedule, “going to the gym” was your work? You’d naturally becoming the fittest version of yourself. These jobs do exist — it’s called being a personal trainer, and anyone with a passion for fitness and helping others can become one. Take a look at OriGym Personal trainer qualifications, and, once you’ve completed a course, you’ll be able to offer one-on-one sessions to people. You’ll be fit, and you’ll be helping another person reach their fitness goals. Win-win!
Outdoor Life
Part of the reason why people were generally healthier and stronger in the past is that they spent so much time outdoors. When you’re in nature, you don’t spend so much time sitting down — if it’s cold, you have to keep moving, for instance. So why not replicate their lifestyle, in a modern way? If you like being outdoors, then you could look at becoming a landscaper, or an outdoor tour guide. You’ll be using your body often and in more varied ways that you would in, say, a gym. There’s also a lot of evidence to suggest that simply being outdoors is enough to put you in a good mood, too, so you won’t just be improving your fitness — you’ll be giving your mind a boost, too.
Working With a Small Business
There’s also evidence to suggest that working with a small business, rather than a mega-corporation, is better for you, too. People’s state of mind improves when they feel they’re able to talk to people at the top, rather than that they’re just a cog in a machine. This does change when you move to the realm of tech and Silicon Valley companies, however — employees of those companies typically have good health, both physical and mental, because of the perks, even though their job does mostly involve typing on a computer as they’re sat at a desk.
Local Florist
Ah, flowers — they’re so underrated. They perk us up in a “they’re pretty” way, but they do something to us under the surface too, and make us happy. One of the most rewarding jobs is being a local florist. It’s a mixture of working with the flowers, having pleasant interactions with the community, and the fact that it’s a varied job — you’re doing a bit of admin, making flowers, buying supplies, and so on.
Whatever You Love
Of course, all the above jobs are only good for your health if you enjoy them. Not liking your job can cause big problems — you’d be more likely to turn to drinking, for instance. As such, one of the best ways to ensure long term health is to find something that you love to do! Part of the reason why people in “the blue zones” live so long is that they enjoy their work. Whether you like getting up in the morning or not makes a big difference to the longevity of your life!
