Holland’s Pies
We have just returned from a trip to Florida, which even by Floridian standards was VERY hot for this time of year. Reaching 32 degrees nearly every day. Whilst being in gorgeous sunny weather, we enjoyed food that was suited to it like salads, and so much ice cream. The shock when we returned to the cold wet autumnal weather back home in the UK, meant the first thing we wanted to reach for was some comfort food. Well, that and our own beds!
So here’s our first proper meal back as a family below. We got to enjoy one of our favourite winter warmer dish in the comfort of our home. As much as I love to travel, being home is always so special too.
From a brand new vegetarian range of Holland’s Pies we sampled the Wyke Farms mature cheddar cheese and onion pie but there are also cheese & veg pies and a vegetarian mince & gravy pie. I found myself asking why I hadn’t ever tried Hollands pie before!

These pies are so darn delicious. They taste and look homemade I think. They are wholesome and not synthetic at all. The pastry is thin, crisp and short and the filling flavourful, rich and cooked to perfection. I am vegetarian and a huge lover of a pie, and as such think I’m a bit of an expert when it comes to this type of food. One area that can let, particularly a veggie pie down, is that the centre isn’t cooked through enough, this pie had no such problems.
Mashed potato with added swede and carrot, tender stem broccoli and large tomatoes with ground thyme, dried chilli and seasoning and the Hollands mature cheddar cheese and onion pie.
I paired the mature cheddar with baked tomatoes, which is a classic combination but added thyme and chilli to them to give a full-flavoured spicy hit. Green veg is a must with this winter warmer and tender stem broccoli adds an iron-rich flavour. Then the smooth mash which let’s face it I had to include. If you didn’t want to add the tomatoes, I would add another vegetable instead and some vegetarian gravy. The pies were even a hit for the meat-eaters in the family too!
Hollands has been around for over 168 years. Today the company prepares and bakes over 1.2 million pies every week and Holland’s Pies’ loyal fan base continues to grow with the company receiving recognition in a variety of colourful ways!
