I love a gift guide. This one is in time for Mothers Day 2020, I thought I would include some things that are giving me joy at the moment, as well as items I would like to receive. First up I wanted to say I realise that Mothers Day can be a very difficult time for some people, and really this gift guide could be for any time of the year that you want to give a gift to anyone, or to themselves! Also that my most favourite thing for Mothers Day personally has to be a handmade card and a meal made for me. Genuinely bliss! Currently trying to teach my 17-year-old a few dishes, and if she can rustle up some pasta and poached eggs on toast I would be so grateful.
However, if gift-giving is something that you’d like to do this Mothers Day, I thought I would come up with a few suggestions that I personally would love to receive. Or gifts I’ve been given recently and been really impressed with.
Anything by IT Cosmetics
I’m a big fan, and if you’ve never used the skincare range or the makeup I’d definitely recommend you give it a try. I think they all make great gifts too. Currently, my favourites are the pillow lips lipsticks, CC cream/foundation and brushes. I have actually been testing out the No.50 Serum, which is a fantastic primer, if you’d like to give something thats a little more personal. The No.50 Serum is more than a primer though as its actually packed with 50+ skin-loving ingredients. It goes on easily and doesn’t leave you feeling sticky, just more moisturised and a great base.
It’s 30 ml so very similar in size to other primers, but I’ve found I don’t need to use as much, as some primers are quite tacky and dry so harder to cover your whole face. Or if you are like me, I tend to only add primer around the middle section of my face, and it look seamless. It also comes with a pipet in the box so you can change from the pump if that’s what you prefer. I do prefer this, as I find I can reduce the amount I use.
- Hydrating primer and serum in one
- Locks in moisture and prepares skin for flawless-looking makeup application
- Infused with peptides, proteins, essential oils, antioxidants, vitamins and botanicals
I follow an American content maker over on Youtube (Hannah Louise Poston) and it was her review of the Pillow Lips – £20 that made me want to try them. She was so right, they are the creamiest and easiest to wear lipsticks I think I’ve ever tried. I love the formula. Even the matte version goes on like a dream! The perfect treat for someone, and I do think if you know someone you can guess the kind of shade of lipstick that is their thing. Oh and don’t let the matte put you off, these are the easiest mattes I’ve ever tried!
I’m also a fan of the CC cream and makeup brushes. If you are wondering why I love the brushes so much, it’s because of how dense they are in the body of the brush but ‘fluffy’ in texture at the ends. I use their iconic double-ended one (you may have seen it on social media) almost every day I wear makeup because I like the way it puts down the makeup and blends. The IT Cosmetics brushes combined with the Your Skin BUT Better CC Cream – £32, is magic.
House Plants
Anyone who knows me, knows I love a house plant. Well here’s an idea for any fellow lovers of green and living things in the home this Mothers Day. Plant Pet Club is an indoor plant subscription box who also offer plant bundles too. Perfect for absolute beginners and busy people, who would love to get into planting.
Plant Pet Club offer beautiful hardy plants, free delivery, simple 4 step care instructions. A subscription is a buildable programme, starting from very easy to care for; once subscribers get familiar with planting and get into a routine of looking at their plants they start introducing more exotic varieties.
There is a Mother’s Day offer is Flowers and Fragrance Box – Gardenia! Early Bird discount available – 15% off Gardenia Box on orders placed by 8/3 – Sunday midnight. Code MOTHER.
How to go waste free.
I’m trying my hardest when it comes to making changes. Some of which are now becoming just second nature. It’s always good though I think, to have something to refer to, and this book is perfect to dip into every now and then. I’ve definitely learned a lot of things from reading this, including storing my vegetables separately because they perish at different rates, think about the ripe banana effect. One thing we have been brushing up on is our DIY skills, which I think is really helping us incredibly when it comes to reusing and recycling. So if you have a mum in your life who might enjoy this too, I think its a great idea for a gift.
Food
Is there a particular food that you and your children enjoy? For us, it’s a tasty curry. I spotted a subscription service that would make a fantastic Mothers Day gift from The Spicery. They offer kits that include recipe books as well as the spices to cook family favourites or more adventurous spice boxes and recipes. We love curry, but there are also other subscriptions available too if you have a hunt around on the internet. Most of all I love the idea of trying new recipes and some of the ‘what are we having tonight’ taken away from me. This one is reasonable too, with 3 months being £26.00 in total.
Whether you celebrate Mothers Day or not, I hope you enjoy these suggestions of gifts.
