Are you the type of person that consumes podcasts faster than I can spend a budget? Do you find yourself constantly recommending ones to your family members and friends? Have podcasts completely taken over your life, replacing any and all media as your primary source of information and entertainment? If your answer to all these questions is yes, then you, my friend are what we call a podcast fiend.
I know this isn’t a shower, but I’m obsessed with pink baths at the mo!
I love all things podcast, which makes me the ultimate super listener. I am totally devoted to downloading, subscribing and consuming as many as my time will allow me. Not a day goes by where I don’t listen to at least 3 podcasts. I actually have an alarm set that reminds me to download all the latest episodes (because saving data!) and I am constantly on the lookout for ways to improve my listening options.
I would argue that my obsessive listening has made me a better-rounded person. My, oh my, the things I have learned! I never saw myself as a person that would care so much about global politics or the contemporary art movement in Brazil. Thanks to podcasts, however, I know things; I even use my trivia to impress people at job interviews and awkward networking parties.
If you are a fan of podcasts, then you understand exactly where I am coming from and know just how riveting they can be. An entrancing podcast can immerse you in a completely different world and since they are free and generally educational in nature, you can listen to as many as you can, as often as possible.
You can tune in on your commute to work, while you work out, as you carry out your errands, clean and organize or my personal favourite, as you are in the shower. What better way is there to start your day and wind down your evening than with a nice, relaxing bubble bath as you absorb a good audio story or interview from your shower speaker (great list of affordable shower speakers here)?
Podcasts are a dime a dozen. However, if you stumble on the right ones, they can completely change your point of view and switch up your day to day routine for the better. If you are like me and many others out there that find it simply impossible to shower in idle silence sans the dulcet tones of your favourite podcast to keep your occupied, here are short podcasts that you can listen to in the shower:
You’re dead to me
If you are one of those people that enjoy history but prefer it to be presented in a fun and enjoyable way, then You’re dead to me could just be your cup of tea. Host Greg Jenner invites guests to explore various action-packed historical topics such as the history of the general elections or interesting world sites such as Stonehenge.
But this isn’t your typical history class; the topics are discussed in a satirical and comedic manner, which is sure to keep you informed but fully entertained.
Pod Save America
Can’t seem to get enough of President Trump’s whacky press briefings? The Pod Save America will keep you posted about all things American politics. Co-hosted by 4 of former President Obama’s ex-aides, the show discusses all the latest White House news.
The hosts often invite political activists, politicians as well as journalists to dissect political events. Subscribe if you are a lover of politics and are looking for insightful analysis and commentary regarding important issues in the news.
Men in Blazers
If you cannot get enough of soccer, then this show was created just for you. As the name suggests, the hosts, Roger Bennet and Michael Davies discuss football, in blazers. This New York City-based show was created to cater to America’s fast-growing obsession with soccer. The duo discusses global soccer (or football in most other parts of the world) including all the major European football teams such as Manchester United and Real Madrid.
My favorite murder
People are obsessed with true crime. As a matter of fact, the gorier the better. Almost every week, there seems to be a new docu-series released to cater to the booming demand. Perfect for true crime fanatics, this show is hosted by fellow fanatics Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff.
Every week, the pair delves deep into a murder case offering hilarious and light-hearted commentary. It may sound strange to many, but hearing the hosts discuss some of today’s most prolific murders of our time, the likes of Ted Bundy, can be especially soothing after a long day (weird, we know!)
Fat Mascara
This one is for people that cannot get enough of the never-ending beauty trends that we constantly have to deal with in the age of social media. The show is hosted by 2 New York beauty bloggers Jessica Matlin and Jennifer Goldstein and they discuss an array of beauty topics that run the gamut from how to take better pictures with renowned photographer Nigel Barker to where you can find the best bargain beauty products.
As insiders, these two hosts have access to some of the coolest tips, up to date news on the latest product launches, as well as some very interesting guests. If you eat, sleep and breathe all things beauty, then you cannot afford to miss this podcast.
Final Words
If you consider yourself a podcast aficionado, then you must know how enjoyable and relaxing it can be to spend an evening submerged in a warm foamy bubble bath, a glass of wine in hand, as you listen to your favourite podcasts. Although baths are great for winding down after a stressful day, it can get a bit boring in there as you soak away.
As such, podcasts are the perfect distraction and companions. So, the next time you are having a bad day, consider winding down your day or start your morning differently by cueing up one of these podcasts listed above. Just remember to keep your very-not-water-resistant tablet or iPad very far away from the water’s edge. Happy listening!
