I love gift ideas, and this one is one with a bit of a twist. Do you (or someone you’d like to give a gift to) enjoy wine, but feel like you’d like to learn more about it? Well, how about Wine List. I don’t know about you, but I am very stuck in my ways when it comes to wine, and tend to ask for the same kind all the time. To be honest when I see a wine list or extensive shelves of wine, even though I do enjoy wine, I can feel out of my depth. I look at price, grape and the label in that order. Even when I say grape, really what I’m saying is I know I like Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc when I’m ordering white but I really couldn’t say why I like them. I’m so stuck in my ways and I don’t tend to move out of that realm. Do you feel the same? Or maybe you do have some knowledge and would like to expand on that? Well, I want to introduce you to The Wine List, which is a subscription service for the wine curious.
So what do you receive?
Every month, you will receive two bottles of wine, Wine List will also provide you with the learning materials and the community needed to learn about wine. They promise that the wines will be interesting and different so that you can practice the new tasting techniques that you learn. They will be red and white, as this really does help give you more of a rounded understanding of wine. Now the community side is something that is a strong part of the Wine List, and as soon once we are all back on track (Covid 19) more wine tastings and events together will be happening. In the meantime, they are on social media so you can definitely share thoughts that way.
Wine List subscription service
You are given two fact cards, one for each of the wine. On the reverse are taste notes ready for you to fill out.
Working out what a wine smells or tastes like is hard. In fact, it’s commonly cited as one of the hardest things to describe.
Our tasting cards are designed to help you find the words you’re looking for. Whether you’re trying to judge how acidic a wine is or find the right stone fruit taste to describe it.
Each of those bottles is worth around £15-20 and the subscription is £39 per month. However, the subscription is fully flexible. Prepare to discover lesser-known grapes and regions and winemakers. The emphasis on this is because this is where the Wine List subscription service believe the value is. I’ve got to say this is what sold it to me, I think its such a great way to expand my knowledge. They also choose each individual bottle because they have interesting characteristics so that you can learn more over the course of the subscription. It’s available in mainland UK only and it makes with the perfect gift or treat for yourself. I’m loving the idea of having friends round to share this experience together. There’s also a cheeky 30% off with a card you get in your package so your friends can try a box too.
Hope you enjoyed this review, and do let me know if you signed up.
