Thinking of starting a savings account for your children, or to move from your existing one?
Well there is an excellent incentive with Virgin Money’s young savers accounts at the moment. Virgin Money, has joined forces with WWF (World Wildlife Fund for Nature) to offer each new children’s savings account from Virgin Money a WWF adoption pack.
- Virgin Money is supporting the WWF in protecting rare and endangered wild animals and their habitats
- WWF Animal Adoption subscriptions (12 month) given away with new Virgin Young Saver Accounts
- Virgin Young Saver Issue 2 offers interest of 2.00% gross* p.a. / AER**
I think this is a really lovely idea. What a great chance this would be to speak to your child about the importance of making plans for the future, and saving. A child is never to young to start to learn these kinds of lessons. I am a great believer in children having their own savings account where they can put aside money for future years. Coupled with this, it provides a fantastic opportunity to talk to a child about the perilous future of some of the worlds animals, and how we can help these animals.
Once I heard about this account, I spoke to my eldest daughter (Miss N who is 10) about her thoughts on this. She thought the teaming up of Virgin Money and WWF was a great idea. I was amazed at how much she knew already. She spoke about the Giant Panda, being incredibly rare and that she would love to adopt one of these to try to help. She said that because Giant Pandas were losing the places they lived (converting the forests to farm land and building on them) and they were also being killed by poachers, is why Giant Pandas were a endangered animal. We sat down, and looked at some of the schemes that the WWF is involved in to help animals like this, that are under such a great threat. We both found it so interesting, and it has really made us both want to help the cause.
Tobin Aldrich, Director of Communications and Fundraising at WWF-UK said
“WWF is proud to partner with the Virgin Young Saver Account campaign as it’s never too early to start saving for a child’s financial future, or to get our children involved in vital conservation issues such as the protection of rare and endangered species and their natural habitats.”
So, once you open an account, you will receive an adoption pack through the post. You need to be quick though, as these are limited. They are also only available through the Virgin Money Store network. There are a range of 12 different WWF Animal Adoption Packs available for customers to choose from. I know we would choose the Giant Panda adoption pack, as they really seem to be passion of Miss N’s, but the adoption packs also include Tiger (perfect for Miss A I think), Snow Leopard, Black Rhino or Asian Elephant.
Each WWF animal adoption pack will include:
- a cuddly toy
- a certificate of adoption
- stickers, bookmarks and a fact book
- a free quarterly update from the WWF
