I don’t know if spring is in the air, but I have been on a mission this last couple of weeks to organise and deep clean my house. My next job was the kitchen, so I have emptied and tidied all the cupboards, sent to charity anything we no longer use. Our coat rack is in one corner of the kitchen so I’ve reorganised that too.
Well amongst all this I realised my oven was, to put it frankly a disgrace!
I have tried oven cleaning products in the past, I find them a nightmare. The fumes are toxic, they always burn my hands. Tall Dad complains for days afterwards he can still smell and taste, whatever chemicals are in the cleaners.
So we decided to get the professionals in. Now this is not a service I’ve ever used before, so I did a little research and asked around. A few of my friends have had their oven professionally cleaned before, one has it done each year, at Christmas time. Each one of them highly recommended it. The name that they kept mentioning was Ovenu.
I emailed my local agent, Peter Bell and let him know the type of oven I have (a range with two ovens) and they he worked out an exact price. They are no hidden extras with the price and that even includes a full insurance policy.
Here are Peter’s Ovenu promises:
- A prompt response to your enquiry.
- An all-inclusive quotation based on the information you supply.
- Punctuality, courtesy and quality at your home.
- Only Ovenu bespoke caustic soda-free products used both inside and outside ‘on the van’.
- ISO standard, fully trained technician.
- A cheerful smile!
I booked my appointment with Peter, it was all done via prompt emails. He detailed exactly what would be included in the job!
On the day of the job, I’ve got to admit I was nervous…I know my ovens not that bad (I’ve been a student before ;)) but it’s 5 years old, and I cook in it nearly every day, sometimes twice a day.
So Peter got to work, ensuring me, that this was definitely not the worse he’d seen. Phew! I think I was amusing him thinking it was.
He deftly took all the sides and shelves out of the oven. These are soaked in a degreaser and carbon remover (in his van) as he tackles the inside of the oven and the doors. Even the light cover is removed and cleaned.
He give me hints and tips on cleaning the iron grid on my hob and the filters in my extractor. Peter really knows his stuff!
There was no chemical odour whilst he cleaning! It really is lots of elbow grease, together with a de-greasing agent!
When I made the appointment he anticipated that it would take 3 hours and that was exactly right.
So here it is my sparkling oven.
Its looks brand new, there is no odour, so I was not worried and cooked in it that night. An absolutely fantastic service, from a true professional!
I can not recommend Peter and the Ovenu service highly enough, he really has taken the hard work out of oven cleaning. What are you doing this time next year Peter…will you pencil me in?
Thank you for reading
I was given a discount for reviewing the Ovenu service. The thoughts and words however, are all my own. I will definitely be using the service again, it’s fantastic!

A friend of mine used a service like this and also loved it.
Last year we bought a self-cleaning oven because I’m mega allergic to oven cleaner. It’s fab accept you can’t leave the grid in while it’s cleaning. Had we not needed a new oven I would definitely have looked into a service like this.

Thanks for your comment Sarah. Do you know my oven IS a self cleaning oven, and I’ve never read the instructions to figure out how to do it!
So I only have myself to blame 😉

You have such a lovely kitchen!! I have used a similar service and it is unbelievable! I do it once a year and it is literally like having a new oven again! Never hears of self cleaning ovens, must look into that when I need one!

I really must read my instructions, but I think you put the oven to a certain temp, and then wipe down the sides. I don’t think it helps with shelves, roof or bottom. Which I think are the worst places?!?
