I am one of those parents, who does not want to get into the whole competitive parenting thing. I want World Book Day to be about BOOKS!
So when Miss N and I decided on an outfit, it had to be easy to make and be a book she had either had read or wanted to read.
We decided on the character Lucy Pevensie, from The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Here she is, I know I’m biased, but I think she looks beautiful!
The Coat I bought from Vertbaudet in the sale, thank to Becky from Baby Budgeting for the tip! It cost £16 and is big enough that she can wear it next year.
The Beret – Models Own. 😉
We recycled a box for the gas mask box, and pinned to her coat a label with Lucy’s name and address on.
So easy, and most importantly, she loves it and its going to read the book again!
Thank you for reading
She looks stunning! Clever you to find an outfit that can be reused.
Bargain coat!
Thank you so much Becky!
I love the site, thank you so much for the recommendation. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous! The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was one of my favourite books when I was Miss N’s age too.
Hello M, thank you! It’s such a lovely story..a firm favourite in our house!
I love purple – and that coat and hat are particularly nice
Such a good idea to make a costume using real clothes
Also a good reminder to me to reread the book – I already have a second hand copy at the ready 🙂
Thank you! I was so impressed with the prices. The coat is really lovely quality!
We bought Miss N a copy once after a trip to London as a present. It’s got copies of all the original illustrations, it so beautiful.
I think I might read it again too!
She does look gorgeous and what a beautiful coat. My eldest boy is reading this bookstore the moment

Thank you, Miss N Is too old really, but loved this!
Thank you for the comment, just visited your blog and commented too 🙂
She looks fab, and I love that the most important thing for you and her was the love of the book. That’s what it’s all about!
Also, that’s a good price for such a lovely coat – it really suits her too!
Thank you for your lovely comment! It really is, I’m hoping to reread it too!
I love this! She looks gorgeous 🙂 x
Awh thank you :)) she really is a lovely girl, I’m so proud of her!
6 years later and half a world away, you save me at 10 pm the night before World Bood Day! We had a coat, made a tag like yours and added a box made to look like a wardrobe with plush lion this morning. My 10 year old was pleased! (Especially since Anne of Green Gables was out because she doesn’t have red hair ).
Oh Emily! So pleased I helped, I really am. It’s still one of my favourite costumes.
