**This competition is now closed**
This weekend, is a VERY good weekend at The Ana Mum Diary as not only is it Mothers day on Sunday, yay for breakfast in bed and a lie in! It’s also St Patrick’s Day and my Dads Birthday, on Saturday.
Now, we always celebrate St Pats, as I’m Irish, and very proud of my roots! But we usually go out for lunch, and watch the Parade in Nottingham with my Mum and Dad. We buy vastly over priced soda bread and shamrock at the Irish Market, then roar with laughter about it, whilst having a Guinness in one of the pubs. Bliss!
I might not be buying the soda bread this year, we may be breaking that tradition. I have a great new recipe from my good friend Gerry from Kiddy Cook.
We attend her cookery classes, in the Nottingham area, details of her classes can be found HERE and we highly recommend them!
If you want to find out more about what we think, here are two posts that I have written about some of the experiences that we have had…..HERE & HERE. We are hoping to book a party for Miss N’s 10th Birthday too!
Gerry has kindly allowed me to share this recipe with you:
Irish Freckle Bread
Preheat oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6
- Olive oil for greasing
- 250g/9oz plain flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 2 tsp soft brown sugar
- 225ml buttermilk
- A handful of raisins
Method:
Sift the flour, salt & soda into the mixing bowl & add the sugar. Stir in the buttermilk, bringing it together in a doughy mass with your hands. It should feel soft and firm, not sticky. Add the raisins. Knead the dough lightly, until smooth, shape into a ball & pace on a greased baking tray. Mark a deep cross on the top.
Cook for 30 minutes, until the base of the bread sounds hollow when you tap it.
Please Note: You need to leave a way of me contacting you if you win e.g twitter ID, or Email address.

This sounds fab – I can’t believe I’m in Nottingham and hadn’t heard of these classes. What a shame they’re on the days Ry is at nursery though!
