It’s really is as lovely as it sounds! This picture book written by Sarahjane Funnell and is her début children’s picture book, is aimed at the 3-6 year olds. However my 9-year-old (who is an advanced reader) read it not only on her own, but to her younger sister. They both really enjoyed it. Giggling as they talked about their favourite flavours and toppings. It is beautifully illustrated with ice cream colours throughout the book, which I think is a beautiful touch.
It tells a tale of Phillipa who adores ice cream, she has a fluffy white cat called Little Miss Whiskers who she loves even more! The pair of them set off on an adventure together in a magical dreamland, and this is where they find the Ice Cream Castle. The land is full of ice cream, with wafers for doors and strawberry sauce and strawberries floating in the moat. How glorious!
I won’t tell you any more of the story as I don’t want to spoil it for you. We all really enjoyed it, it brought back very happy memories of childhood for me, and having Knickerbocker Glories at the seaside. I had almost forgotten about them. I have promised my daughters that I am going to make them a few in the summer as a treat!
My eldest daughter especially loved, that at the end of the book there is a hint to the subject of the next book too. Which we can’t wait to read.
A really lovely gentle story, that is absolutely decadently delicious!
