We have just returned from a weekend trip to Amsterdam, three days and two glorious child free nights. What did we do there? Well we flew Friday morning stayed at a fantastic hotel, we ate, drank, sampled the nightlife, canal cruises, we walked…LOTS. We met people, used the metro and trams, we people watched and picnicked on chocolate waffles and stroopwafel washed down with Danish beer. We flew back on the Sunday evening, tired with aching feet, but definitely with smiles on our faces.
It took us a while to get a acclimatised, I think Tall Dad and I have been both been working so hard, it felt strange to relax. We adored the people and the culture we found. We both love cities, but this is an unusual place really, unlike any city I’ve ever visited. This weekend away was all because to my summer of being a millionaire, thanks to IHG Rewards Club – InterContinental Hotels Group. You can read all about what else I’ve been up to HERE and HERE, but there’s more to come too!
So what is the IHG Rewards Club?
IHG Rewards Club gives members unparalleled freedom to do the things they love and get the most from their travels.
It’s free to join and start earning points to unlock a vast array of rewards and experiences by earning points every time you stay at one of the 4,700 IHG hotels worldwide.
So far we have gone on a millionaire like spending spree and this amazing weekend away, my aim is to try and use my points in as many ways as possible. Join me on this next journey….
InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam
I used my IHG Rewards club points to purchase two return flights and two nights accommodation. It couldn’t have been simpler to do. I logged into my account on the rewards site, chose from many options for the flights, including airline, times and airports etc. I received an email straight away with the confirmation. With the hotel, I needed a little help. I wanted to stay somewhere amazing and luxurious with Tall Dad, I wanted old school grandeur though, not modern.

Our Room : InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam
When I booked, I used the online helper, and messaged them in real-time to give me a hand. I was recommended the hotel that we went for, and the room was booked, using only 40,000 of my points per night. I can confirm having got back, that was a complete bargain! InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam is beautiful, opulent and luxurious, the service we received was fantastic and the building just beautiful. It’s on the outskirts of the Amsterdam city, away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but with a 5 min walk of being enveloped in just that. Perfection for us!
The room was huge, airy high ceilings we were both envious of (living in a modern home) comfortable seating, with a snazzy coffee machine. I loved the French decor, it felt so sophisticated but homely as well. Molten Brown toiletries, which were replenished each day. A morning paper hung from our door in a cloth bag in the morning. It really was such a fab hotel, I would definitely stay at it again.

I’m going to write another post with some hints and tips, but I thought I would share with you a short video of our time in Amsterdam.
We are working with InterContinental Hotels to share our IHG Rewards Club experience. We have been given ONE MILLION Reward points and we are using them and writing about our experiences throughout summer.
