Fresh ingredients delivered direct to your door, together with step by step instructions to cook a delicious meal. Marley Spoon is perfect if you want to try new recipes, but don’t have the time to shop, weigh ingredients out, and go through recipe books in order to do so. It would be great for a dinner party too, or maybe if you are wary of cooking vegetarian, and you have friends coming over who are. With seven recipes to try each week, you can enjoy deciding on a recipe, cooking and eating without the hassle of making something come together with random items you have left in the fridge.
Over Easter we have been trying out the Marley Spoon service to see what we think. You can choose portion sizing from 2-8 people with up to 3 meals per week. We had opted for three meals for four people, but over a two-week period, which would have cost approximately £66 or £5.50 per portion- This price includes delivery. More detailed information is available here on the FAQ page.
The ingredients are delivered nationwide in the UK, either on a Wednesday or Friday, with the items that needed to be kept refrigerated clearly marked and all together so its easy to store them. I tried mostly vegetarian dishes, but also one fish dish.
Each of the recipes were clearly laid out in 6 steps, with illustrations of each of the main steps on a recipe card that was also included in the box. The card also had a photograph of the finished dish along with more information from the chef on how he came up with the recipe and a drink paring, I really like this touch, as it felt more personal. A couple of times I thought the recipe could have been slightly better explained, but once I’d reread it, I realised in actual fact its was me that made the mistake, I am terrible for skip reading things!
So what kind of recipes did I cook?
Whole grilled plaice with asparagus, cherry tomatoes, truffled potatoes and salsa verde.
This was delicious, especially the plaice and the salsa verde. We weren’t a fan of the purple potatoes, not really to our taste, but we’d never tried them before so it was good to try something completely new to us.
Next up, and my favourite was the Orecchiette with peas, rocket pesto and spicy butter beans.
This was very fresh tasting, and full of flavour. The balance of the fresh peas with the spicy harrisa smoky beans worked really well. I added extra parmesan to this dish as it needed more I felt.
Finally Enchiladas with smoky beans and rocket salad.
This was definitely both of the girls favourite dish, they absolutely loved it, and I would definitely cook it again for them.
Overall we really enjoyed the Marley Spoon experience. If you still want to cook from scratch but don’t want the hassle researching recipes, buying and weighing the ingredients out, then this is a great service to go for. The recipes mean that you don’t have extra ingredients that may spoil when you don’t use them in time, something I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of. Each of the recipes are plentiful though, so we even had leftovers for a couple of lunches. I felt the recipes were healthy and nutritious and I liked that there was even a calorie count per portion. I didn’t really come up with any problems, but for the more novice cooks perhaps, there is even a cooking hotline too call. Marley Spoon really have thought of everything!
Thanks to Marley Spoon for sending me the ingredients and recipes.

Amanda,
Love the pizza! I am sure my boys would love it too as a treat after school. It would be great if you could share the recipe? Not sure if you can or not?
Amanda Cottingham says
Not sure which recipe you mean, as there wasn’t a pizza dish. There was no amounts given on the instruction, so no, I cant really share a recipe…sorry!
