It was perfect timing when late Friday afternoon my Marley Spoon family box was delivered. A box hand delivered with up to 4 main meals for between 4-5 people. I’d been asked to test out a couple of their newly launched family meals over the weekend. I’d already tested out the Marley Spoon recipes and fresh ingredients earlier in the year, but was curious how this Family Box differed.
How does it work?
You log into the site and choose how many meals you would like to order (between 2-4 per week) Then adding your postcode, and address you can choose which of the meals you would like to go for. We went for a creamy courgette pasta with smoked trout, and cheesy veggie enchiladas. There are also plenty of meat dished too, for example I just checked, and the next weeks meals include a lemon and herb chicken. The full recipes and ingredients are on the site, so you can check for anything you, or any other members of the family aren’t keen on, and also see how hard the recipe is and cooking time.
What do you get?
Everything you need to make 5 separate meals for all of the family. I found the family box is definitely generous with its ingredients. With the two meals we tried out (there are four of us) we had leftovers for two in both cases. Which was perfect for lunches the next day. You also get a great recipe card with step by step instructions in word and picture form, and an image of the completed dish. It also tells you all the equipment and extra ingredients like seasoning that you need. To be honest though these meals are really delicious and tasty, you don’t need much in the way equipment, at least nothing unusual.
Both of the completed dishes were delicious and a real hit with everyone in the family. Miss A had seconds of the pasta dish and gave it a 105 out of 5!
I think for me, the big bonus is the fact you can try out new recipes, as well as the convenience of having them measured out and delivered to your door for you. If you are looking for something that takes the hassle out meal planning that this is definitely a cool idea that I recommend.
