This isn’t something I post about often, but something I’m extremely passionate about. My children’s eduction. I want them to, no matter what, try their hardest in all of their subjects, at school. Yes, even the ones they don’t love as much, or struggle with. I believe it’s up to me to put the tools in place for this to happen. So I thought I would pass on some of the things that I do day-to-day, and have experience of working.
Sleep
I know to some, I may be a little strict when it comes to bed times, but to me a child who has had enough sleep, is one that will be able to remain focussed during their time at school each day. I think its important to tell your child that’s the reason too. I’ve found a routine at bedtime has been particularly helpful with this process.
Diet
I sometimes think, am I over thinking this, but do you know what it’s worked for me, and I think it’s these little things like diet together with everything else that make a huge difference. I once read some research that said if you drink a glass of water, your brain will work faster, 14% faster in fact. So its something I have always impressed upon my children. I also make sure she they have a good nutritious breakfast, and always have at least 5 a day.
Extra Help
I’m also a big believer that the support that you offer at home in terms of homework and private tuition being incredibly important too. It shouldn’t all be left to the school and class teachers, I think. Play to your strengths though. My husband is a maths whiz, and is really patient when it comes to explaining different techniques so he takes on (thank goodness) helping with maths. This isn’t always possible, and that’s when getting in the experts really can help. Companies like Fleet Tutors are experts in private tuition and are up to date with any curriculum changes and ways of teaching subjects. For example SATs changes happen frequently, your child may need entrance exam preparation or to build confidence in a subject with which they are struggling. Tutoring is personalised based on your child, and this kind of dedicated one to one tuition really gives results.
