Last year in July, we completed our eldest Daughters bedroom, I wrote about it at the time but thought I would share with you some more detailed images of it, that were taken for Hammonds.
Hammonds designed and supplied us with the fitted furniture in the room, including the headboard, shelving and the desk, and we couldn’t have been happier with the results. We also changed from carpet to this amazing vinyl floor. It was the best decision we could have made, and have since used it in my youngest daughters room, and currently I’m having it laid in my hallway and down stairs toilet, I’m so impressed with it. Its incredibly hard wearing, easy to clean and works brilliant in a child’s bedroom, high traffic area, well just about anywhere.
This bedroom has been a revelation, and getting Nia out of her room is the only tricky thing nowadays. I know this is a typical teenager trait, but it definitely increased since she got her new and improved bedroom.
Here is what it looked like before : *ashamed face*
The problems were endless, we’d tried to make small changes, but we kept coming up with the same issues after a few weeks at best months. It needed a radical overhaul. It lacked storage, and always looked messy jumbled and was uncoordinated, even for my eclectic tastes.
Hammonds truly came to the rescue, sending us one of their top designers so that we could achieve a modern bedroom with oodles of storage, and one that would grow with her most importantly. We have been living with the room (well at least Nia has) for the over 6 months and it looks just as good as it did the day it was fitted. It feels like a calm and bright space. Even though we decided to use some dark wood and darker wall colours, the light still bounces around thanks to the mirrors and the choice of reflective surfaces.
Yes there are a few more items out now and she uses the desk as a dressing table as much as for a desk. Other than that though it’s the same.
These shelves which were also added by Hammonds are perfect for Nia to show off her bits and pieces. The wallpaper of our local area, works brilliantly. The lighting was crucial, and we added task and more ambient lighting, and it really works. Especially as the bulbs in the lamp and main light double up as speakers for her music.
So many small details, like seamless drawers, handles and pull-out shelves . Even the mirrored wardrobe doors, look and feel elegant effortlessly simple in design.
I think we learnt a lot doing our teens bedroom, and it made the next bedroom renovation for the 6 year old much easier. We realised our mistakes of ironing over the cracks when it comes to storage, and underestimating how much is needed for the future, so made sure we added much more than we thought we needed.
I’d love to know what you think, and if you have any questions about using a company such as Hammonds for a bedroom, I would be happy to answer them.
With thanks to Steve Davies and Hammonds for the use of the photographs.

Oh wow! That bedroom is just beautiful! I wouldn’t mind it myself. It’s no wonder you struggle to get your girl out of it…

What a lovely bedroom. I am really stuggling with my girls bedroom at the moment as they share a room and have so much clutter in there. This has given me some inspiration with regards to storage!

Beautiful room! That is just perfect for her, I bet she is over the moon with it! Storage is so important for all those bits and bobs they collect. I love the colour scheme too.

Amanda, I love the little touches like the fabulous Nottingham map behind the shelving and the gorgeous angle-poised floor lamp. What a difference a carefully planned and fitted room makes.

Wow, what an amazing room! I love the map wallpaper and the flooring is lovely. How nice to have so much storage, you’re right, sometimes instead of adding more and more a bit at a time it’s great to go right back to the beginning and start again with something that’s been properly designed to fit!

What a beautiful makeover, I would be happy having this as my room. Just found your post, whilst looking around for inspiration for my almost teenage son’s small bedroom. Contemplating fitted now.

Give them more wardrobes to hide all stuff, thats what they need 😀 well, at least my teens rooms is made with some closed solutions, sliding doors and hidden table. No need to show around with dirty clothes :)))) I had some specialist consultation from https://www.bravolondon.co.uk/ and they designed all i needed, just had to say what i like and what my teen likes 🙂 Anyway result was perfect and the price affordable.
