This hallway and cloakroom makeover has been a long time coming. The flooring had been down for almost 20 years and was great quality, but showing signs of age. It felt a little old-fashioned in an orange pine and 80’s kind of way. I really wanted to use Harvey Maria luxury vinyl flooring again following the success of using it in both of my daughters bedrooms.
You can see wood effect grey flooring it in my eldest daughters room HERE.
Dee Hardwicke’s contemporary Lattice design in pebble grey HERE as seen in my 6-year-old daughters bedroom.
This is what the hallway looked like before, when we had emptied it ready for the flooring to be laid. I think you can tell, even when it was freshly cleaned, the flooring was still beginning to look a little marked and scuffed.
The same flooring was used in the downstairs loo too.
Below is what it now looks like. We used Harvey Maria’s Sawn Oak wood effect vinyl flooring – £33.53 per sq meter. This comes as planks which are then glued to the floor. Because our flooring was still sound and not coming away anywhere, our floor expert and tiler recommended that we didn’t really need to do any other preparation other than a light sand of the floor and he would glue it straight on top. This might always be the case though, so look on the HM website for more details.
I would definitely recommend you purchase the recommended glues that Harvey Maria sell, and so did Tom who fitted the floor. He also incidentally fitted Jen from Love Chic Livings hallway flooring.
The new flooring in the cloakroom is so much better. Not only is it a warmer and more natural wood colour, it look and feels so much smarter. I don’t think I’ve ever shown this room on the blog before…excuse my obsession with mirrors!
We wanted to go for something really different in the hallway, than we had previously had. Something classic, brighter and making more of a statement with its design was the look we wanted.
As soon as I saw Harvey Maria Neisha Crosland parquet tile effect flooring – £42.95 per square metre, I knew this was the one. The only issue was choosing the colour. I toyed with teal, which is one of my favourite colours, but I’ve used this a lot in other areas of the house, so wanted to go for something really different.

So we decided (after much debate) on Heather, which is a grey/purple geometric pattern on an off white background. I can’t tell you how much we love it! In some of the images it looks more grey that purple, but it really is a mix of the two, more subtle than most purples, and quite a warm colour, which I was really pleased about, as I don’t really like harsh cold colours.

Its been style up a couple of different ways to show you it’s versatility. So far, its only been down a couple of days but everyone who has seen it can’t believe that it’s not ceramic tiling, until they take their shoes off, and feel how much warmer and softer is underfoot.
It’s just so stunning, don’t you think?
The next image is how we have decided to leave it, as we use the dresser to keep shoes in. I must admit I was really tempted to just keep it as a reading nook…thanks Mum for that idea!
I’m now toying with the idea of painting the cabinet a mid grey, but I also love the contrast the wood gives, so I think I might leave it….for now!
Of course as always, Bennett wanted to get in on the action!
I haven’t mentioned this before, but someone did ask me if this Luxury vinyl flooring is suitable for pets. Yes this kind of flooring is perfect if you have pets, and so far we haven’t had any problems with it at all. It’s easy to keep clean, is slip resistant and water proof. Harvey Maria comes with a 20 year guarantee, the flooring is even suitable for underfloor heating, and both commercial and domestic premises.
I would love to know what you think. Do you like the flooring? Or do you have and questions, please fire away, I will be more than happy to answer them.
Thank you again to Harvey Maria’s help with this project, and their patience as this one took longer than I would have liked. As always the thoughts and words in the post are my own and a true reflection of how I feel about the brand, and my new floors.
*whispers* I think the house is finally finished! Well I think so, but then I spotted that they make custom printed floors. Now my mind is doing overtime thinking of the different possibilities!

This is such a great makeover. That flooring is really stunning and nice that it won’t be so cold underfoot. The chair looks great but agree the cabinet is probably a better option. I also love the mirror and the arrow light. Enjoy your new space. I’m off to check out Harvey Maria!

It looks gorgeous!
I think I’m going for this design in my kitchen. Do you find the dirt/ dust shows up easily?
Amanda Cottingham says
Well, I do get a lot of traffic on it because its the hall way. The only time I can really see its mucky, is if its been raining outside. What will the girls not wiping there feet and two scooters! Its so simple to clean though. I sweep it, or use my handheld dyson and just steam it quickly afterwards. I definitely dont need to do it everyday, just twice a week I’d say, which was the same as the last flooring I had. Hope that helps.
Emma says
Thanks Amanda that’s really helpful.
Reality Mammy says
Wow your hall is amazing! We are going to be doing up our hall soon too and it’s similar to yours. Did you happen to paint your bannister by any chance? If you did, what paint did you use? Ours is just the normal pine colour at the minute and we want to change it to white which will transform the hall and make it much brighter. I just want to make sure that we get the right paint for it.
Amanda Cottingham says
We didn’t this time. We generally use valspa or Dulux paint though. I always think gloss lasts longer and it really does pay to lightly sand and use a primer too. Hope it goes well!
Reaility Mammy says
Thank you, I’ll check out their range.
Amanda Cottingham says
You know that phrase if you haven’t got anything nice to say, then don’t say it….
Elle says
I love those tiles! I had something similar in out previous bathroom, but in black and white. We have an old Queenslander-style house and those tiles provide just the right vibe!
Amanda Cottingham says
I can imagine in black and white they would be really striking!
