There are many instances where you might want or need to change a child’s name by Deed Poll, and every case will be different, you may want to simply change a first name, but in some instances a change of surname is required.

Both a Deed Poll and any certified copies are legally binding documents that provide evidence that you have changed your name and no longer use your old name. Your Deed Poll will be accepted by every Government organisation, including the Passport Office and the DVLA.
Interestingly you don’t need a solicitor to apply for a Deed Poll, but its important to choose a company that you trust. With a child though, everyone with parental responsibility must consent to the name change.

Apply Online
The first step to changing your child’s name by deed poll is to apply online to a deed poll service. Using this service they ask you to answer a few simple questions, and it takes only 5 minutes to complete. You will need provide name change details and make your payment, it is as simple as that!
Wait for the post
You will then receive your deed poll documents and all supporting guidance documents.
Sign, Witness and Notify
You now sign your deed poll and have your witness sign it. Your deed poll is now complete and is ready to be sent out to everyone to notify them of your name change. Copies are sent out and the original deed poll stays with you.
