The town of Malton is home to the famous Flamingo Land should you fancy being a bit of an adrenaline junkie! With rides suited to families as well as some a bit more exciting for your older children, you’ll never be bored!
For something a little different, why not take your children to Eden Camp? A history museum that is sure to educate and entertain at the same time, take your children on a tour of World War II and teach them about the importance of it.
In other parts of Yorkshire, Ripon is home to the stunning Fountains Abbey which will make even your youngest children gaze in awe.
Wales
Known for its rugged coastline and cities full of culture, Wales is picturesque and packed full of activities. It is said to contain more castles per square mile than any other country in the world, as well as plenty of beautiful countryside and a variety of things to do.
The Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park is perfect for showing your children different types of wildlife, including dolphins and grey seals. Located in the southern half of Cardigan Bay, you can enjoy a wonderful nature reserve and breathtaking cliffs. If you fancy something a little more exciting, visit the National Showcaves Centre and discover underground. Spectacular formations and exciting caverns are sure to keep your children entertained through the day.
Cornwall
Cornwall, often know for its beaches and perfect landscape for a long weekend, might be a bit further away but the drive is certainly worth it. With ample wildlife parks and animal sanctuaries, Cornwall is home to a number of landmarks that you can show to your children.
Land’s End offers incredibly scenery, providing you with a beautiful pathway to take your children on. If you’re lucky you might even be able to spot the Isles of Scilly! Likewise, you might want to take a look at other significant landmarks such as St Michael’s Mount; get to it either by walking across the causeway or cross by boat and explore the castle at the top.
Edinburgh
For another cultural trip with the whole family, why not head to Edinburgh? Explore the Highlands while you’re there, or simply spend your time exploring this wonderful city. With something for everyone, take your kids to Edinburgh Zoo or Edinburgh Castle to keep them entertained. After, you can explore the shops and immerse yourself in this bustling, exciting city.
The Museum of Childhood and Camera Obscura are extra options if your kids haven’t run out of energy by then!

What a great list! We need to come to this area and spend some time exploring. The kids have been begging to head to the UK and I’m always gathering ideas for making an itinerary.
In general, I love the advice to get out and explore things near you! The whole world is a classroom and we can become experts in what is near to us…others travel so very far to get to see the same thing!!
