We’ve been making a few changes around the house over the last few weeks. I always feel the need to do this on the run up to Christmas. The urge to declutter and sort out any jobs we’ve been meaning to do. Do you feel this way too?
One such job was our main bedroom. I do love this room, however it has been three and half years ago since we decorated – you can see how it looked in the below image. Whilst it was still in really good condition, I was bored with the yellow wallpaper, and wanted to try to lighten up the room, and give it a different look. It also really needed new pillows and a duvet as ours were very tired. I’d recently read some statistics about how gross old duvets and pillows are, and so I was desperate to get new ones. For this post I am working with DUSK.com, an online retailer that really knows it stuff when it comes to a good nights sleep. Offering amazing quality (and I can’t stress enough how good a quality it is) bedding, but this bedding is sold at an amazingly low price for the quality. I was impressed!
BEFORE
You can’t put a price on a good nights sleep, and I wholeheartedly believe that a comfortable bed is paramount to this, and this includes pillows and bedding.
We have a king size bed (much needed with my husband being so tall) and so I wanted a new king size duvet. I usually go for a high 12/13 tog (much to my husband annoyance, as he would prefer to sleep in a cooler bed) whereas I prefer to have something heavy and very warm on my body when I sleep. We decided to try out the Supreme Goose Down Duvet, which is 9tog, filled with 80% pure white goose down and 20% feather. Even though this is less of a ‘tog’ that I am used to, I could not get over how luxuriously, plump and warm it felt. My husband was also impressed, I think because it’s made from a natural product it seemed to regulate to each of our body temperatures, much better than our old duvet. Even the outer of cotton percale, that the duvet is surrounded by, felt so expensive. It was however (as is all the bedding) a really affordable price.
There is also a summer weight 4.5 tog duvet that you can purchase, which you can combine with the 9 tog to make an all season duvet, there are buttons to do this. Now whilst I might invest in the summer weight one next year, I don’t think I’d add it to the 9 tog, as I really think it is warm enough.
That same cotton percale outer of the duvet is used on the two medium supreme goose down pillows that I went for. I’ve been using all of the new bedding for the last couple of nights, and with the pillows, I noticed that though they are soft, they do give a lot of support to my head and neck. I prefer to angle myself so I’m a little higher whilst sleeping, not flat, and these work brilliantly to allow me to do this.
Ok, so here is how the room looks now:
Pink walls have replaced the yellow wallpaper, and I added the crisp white bed linen with added light grey/silver touches too from DUSK.com.
I even treated myself to new PJ’s

I’m a little bit of a snob expert when it comes to bed linen, I’m going to admit it. This bed linen is good, it’s really really good!
The pillow cases, sheet and duvet cover are made with 400 count Silky Sateen in 100% Superior Cotton. Now if you haven’t ever bought sateen bed linen, I really recommend it. It feels amazing to sleep on, and its much easier to iron that normal cotton duvets I find. I’m not sure how they treat it for it to become sateen, but it makes a huge difference. It has that feel that you have when you sleep in a really good hotel, just the right amount of smooth crispness, perfect!
It looks great doesn’t it? Fresh, clean definitely giving a bit of a boutique hotel feel to the room, but still looks comfortable and inviting.
One of the final things I’m still looking to add is a nice clock for the bedroom walls. I’m looking at the Townhouse slate large wall clock from thomaskentclocks.com, but since they have such a wide selection, it’s really a tough call to make. I’ll make use of their next-day delivery service once I found the perfect fit
With the lighter walls and bed linen I’ve been amazed how different the room feels. So much lighter and brighter. Easier to see what I’m doing when I’m putting makeup on. We’ve both slept really well, and I’m hoping for a big lie in this weekend so that I can really take advantage. In fact, I’m putting in my order for breakfast in bed please…? I hope you enjoyed this post, I can tell you how much I love the changes we have made. Huge thanks to DUSK.com for all their help with the bedroom makeover.

It looks amazing Amanda. I love that 1930’s vibe you have going on. You’ve also prompted me to start looking for a new duvet. Mine has definitely had it’s day. x
