As regular readers will know I write a lot about finishing touches to your home that I see online. Things that I want to show you that I’ve hunted out. Trends and ideas that you will want to know about. You can read more about those posts I written HERE.
Today I wanted to take two things that you can do to walls that really give a room personality and put a stamp on your home. They could be even ideas you’d not actually thought about before.
A Feature Wall
Now I’m not talking here a wall in a different colour to the rest of the room. Or even a wall of vivid or contrasting wallpaper, thats been around for some time now. What I’m wanting to highlight to you about today, is something a little more adventurous.
Brick slips or tiles.
What do you think? Whilst I was in the US last month I watched one of my favourite channel HGTV. Which has some of the best American home makeover shows on. In the US, a feature wall of this nature is really common, but not so in the UK, so that got me wondering why? I think that its something that going to be a really big trend in the next few years.
There are many different looks to go for. You don’t necessarily have to go for a rustic look, brick tiles of this kind also work well in modern rooms (as above) or in industrial looking interiors too. The bricks you choose can add real warmth and character to a room. Is this is a look that’s whetted your appetite? I would recommend you get some samples of the stone or brick, to help you make a decision about the style, as it is a tricky choice to make. For me a feature wall like this really anchors a room, adding texture and a little drama to a space. I love the idea of a column of fireplace being clad in stone or brick tile, or one wall in a kitchen or dining space. Why not give it a go?
Skirting Boards
This may seem like such a small thing, but honestly the style, depth and height of the skirting boards and architrave that you choose can really change the way a room looks and feels. There was a period where skirting boards were always painted white and there wasn’t much choice in design. Now however, thanks to both online and high street stores, there is a vast array available.

Even the material that skirting is made from has changed. You no longer only have solid wood to choose from, there is a variety of other materials on offer. My sister-in-law has aluminium skirting that has heating within it. Companies today have now turned towards MDF too, as its easy to produce and can be made to outlast the average wood skirting board. You can order primed skirting board in over 100 different designs from companies such as Skirting World. As you can see, colour, style and material of skirting boards are now flexible and can be changed in any way you see fit. Times really have changed and now the opportunity to make an impact on the walls of your home in a very different way have too.
So, what are you waiting for? Make your dream home come true today!

Let me introduce you to another type of feature wall. We create stencils to decorate walls. You just need our stencil template, a color of your choice, a roller, a bit of DIY and patience ;). Our style is Scandinavian but you can find also in our shop Geometric, Damask or Tribal choices.

Tank you for the message. I’ve seen the roller kind, and find them really intruiging!
