So in this review, I have been asked by the team at ION-Sei, to give my honest thoughts about the electric toothbrush. I’ve been trying it out for around 2 weeks now, and overall I am very impressed.
What comes with it?
ION-Sei handle
Soft and Standard brush
USB cable
EU and UK adaptor
Charger stand
Transparent charger cover
Waterproof:
Unit IPX5
Charger stand IPX7
It comes in two colours: white – Day White and a baby blue colour which I have, called Lake Blue.
It retails for £129.99 on Amazon, with different brush heads to choose from; Standard, Compact Soft and Soft in packs of two heads for £11.99. So comparable to other sonic toothbrushes.
Innovative brush head, designed in Japan, normal spiral bristles are combined with tapered ones that are softer for your mouth. The gentle-on-gums 31,000 strokes-per-minute sonic vibrations give you deep yet gentle cleaning power.
What makes this toothbrush different?
I use a Sonicare toothbrush, and have done for the last 5 (ish) years. For me I’m already a convert of sonic vibrations being effective when it comes to teeth brushing. The first thing I noticed was how light this is, compared to my usual brush. Whats different about the ION-Sei toothbrush is that whereas most electric toothbrushes only remove some of the plaque and bacteria, ionic technology actually suppresses the bacteria causing plaque too.
- UV light strikes the TiO2 (titanium dioxide) bar and makes the OH radical (hydroxyl radical), generating IONs. The OH radical and ION (OH-) helps to suppress bacteria attachment and therefore plaque formation, travelling further and deeper into your mouth.
- The ION-Sei is an innovation that works with your body’s natural electrical charge—producing an opposite charge that suppresses plaque and bacterial growth, and helps to attract bacteria and plaque from teeth.
What I’m particularly interested in is the suppression of bacteria and the improvement of gum disease. Clinical trials have suggested the patients with severe periodontitis indicated a significant reduction Gingival Crevicular Fluid, which I find really interesting.
It has a built-in timer, so it turns off after two minutes. This is a great way to make sure that you’re brushing your teeth for the right amount of time, something I’m always afraid of. It also stops every 30 seconds to make sure you then move on to the next area of your mouth.
3 Brushing Modes
1. Sensitive for a gentle-on-gums clean.
2. Standard for an everyday clean.
3. Deep for a supercharged clean.
To be gentlest on gums use the sensitive mode with the soft brush head. I prefered the deep cleaning and standard mode, as I don’t have sensitive teeth.
For each full charge, you can get about 40 cleans and it takes about 10 hours for it to fully charge.
Who would I recommend it for?
Anyone interested in trying new dental technology. People who travel a lot, both because it lightweight, the USB charging option and being able to brush your teeth on the go thanks to the generous battery life. I also think if you struggle with gripping heavy things, then this may be the toothbrush for you. I sometimes have problems with this (I struggle turning the sho on and off and opening heavy jars) and so it highlighted to me, how useful it could be.
