They say a change is as good as a rest, and I think this is totally true when it comes to our homes.
We spend so much time in one or two rooms of the home, that they can soon become uninspiring, lacklustre and outdated. However, not many of us have the luxury of redecorating whenever we fancy, so how do we inject new life into our living spaces without breaking the bank?
Here are some simple and affordable ideas that you can implement overnight:
- Light Things Up
The lighting you choose can transform a room as it has an overwhelming impact on the ambience you create.
If you feel as though a dining space or living room needs livening up a bit, a pendant light may be just what you need (there are some great ideas at Coopers of Stortford). Choose something statemental that won’t just cast great light but will draw your attention to the centre of the room. Or, if you feel you need to wind things down a bit, a simple table lamp that allows you to dim the lights could be just what you need.
Even something as simple as lighting candles instead of having lights on can transform how space looks and feels.
- Introduce a Rug
Flooring isn’t easy to replace and will certainly take some time to do, so why not overhaul your existing flooring with a rug that’s bang on trend? You could go for something really striking in your dining room, e.g. something with bold stripes or intricate patterns, or you could add another layer of texture with a shaggy rug in a colour that complements your existing décor.
Or, if you’re feeling really creative, you could have a go at making your own rug from a carpet. There are a number of online tutorials that show you how to bind your carpet at the edges to create a rug.
- Change Out Your Accessories
If you’ve got quite a neutral colour scheme in your home, i.e. your floors are covered in wooden floorboards or cream carpets, your sofa’s beige and your walls are magnolia, one of the best ways to bring it to life is to introduce new accessories.
A neutral colour scheme gives you the perfect backdrop for a whole host of accessories, so you can really chop and change these with the times. Pick a particular colour that you want to use and add hints of this with your accessories, including your cushions, picture frames, vases and throws. Once added your space will take on a whole new look – no decorating required!
It really is that simple to overhaul your existing design scheme. Just look for some inspiration online, do a bit of DIY yourself and be clever with the accessories you choose. Soon your home will have gone from drab to fab!
