Only use a swimming cap if you are too lazy to wait to remove your extensions before diving into the swimming pool.
- Keep your hair extensions dry
There are times when water still manages to reach your clip-in hair extension despite the steps you have taken to prevent it. Well, if this occurs don’t fret there is a solution for you. Just ensure that once you get out of the water, you gently brush any knots and also dry areas where the clips hold to your hair. Drying the water from the extension helps to remove the possibility of the extension hair getting entangled. Remember water makes the extension to easily get knots and entangle.
- Always pre-condition your hair before you go swimming
Pre-condition your hair extension before you set out to go swimming with your high quality clip hair extension. Please note that even wearing a swim cap will not prevent water from reaching your hair extensions. By pre-conditioning the extension hair before you jump into the water, you will be helping to prevent chlorine or salt from damaging it. Sometimes wearing a swimming cap may not be an option for you while you need to swim. Well, there is a way you can go about this. You can still swim and ensure that you protecting your hair by avoiding too much contact with water. You can achieve this by braiding your extensions hair before entering the swimming pool. Braiding has been found to help prevent drying out of hair strands thus reducing any chance of damage to them. You can put hair buns, braids, or twists to achieve this.

It makes sense for you to first check for loose hair on the extensions before you dive into the swimming pool. If you do dive into the water with loose hair on the extensions chances of them detaching will be high. They could as well easily get damaged with the water.
- Coat the hair ends with conditioner
Coating the ends of your extension hair with a good conditioner helps to guarantee its protection from water. Hair conditioner usually helps to remove chemicals, minerals and chlorine from the hair thus protecting it. As you may have heard about the effects of chlorine on hair which is making the hair to become too dry and brittle thus causing easy breaking. - After swimming ensure that you wash your extensions thoroughly
It is always a good idea to make sure that you wash your clip in hair extension using shampoo and hair conditioner.
